Assalamu alaikum everybody,
First of all, I’d like to apologise for the lack of updates on the forums. Real life has understandably taken precedence, but I’ve now managed to go through each tour, update the results, and bring everything back up to date.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to publicly announce that this will be my final season in charge of the Pakistan U20s.
I want to sincerely thank the entire community for the incredible support you’ve shown throughout my time as manager. Without all of you, many of the successes we’ve enjoyed over the past few seasons simply wouldn’t have been possible. Every player trained, every suggestion made, every bit of encouragement and support has contributed to where we’ve reached today, so a huge round of applause to you all. I wish whoever takes over this fantastic team every success and hope they continue building on the strong foundations we’ve laid together.
Looking back over the past six seasons, Pakistan U20s have enjoyed a memorable period of success. We’ve qualified for three consecutive One Day World Cups and two of the last three Twenty20 World Cups. Even more pleasing has been the consistency we’ve built over the past three seasons, qualifying for three consecutive World Cups (OD, T20, OD).
In the One Day World Cups played during my tenure, we’ve reached one semi-final and suffered one group-stage exit (missing out on NRR). Our Twenty20 World Cup journey began with an early group-stage exit, but we bounced back brilliantly. Most recently, at the EOS 64 Twenty20 World Cup, we reached the final, only to fall agonisingly short against Afghanistan.
During my tenure, we also navigated the NAT structure changes while continuing to achieve success both before and after the transition. We guided Pakistan from Division 3 to Division 1 in the One Day format before the structure changed. Prior to the recent Twenty20 World Cup, we climbed to No. 5 out of 20 nations in the T20 NAT ladder rankings.
Now, for the first time in Pakistan U20 history, we sit proudly at No.1 in the One Day NAT ladder rankings. Winning 11 of our 12 OD matches this season, including an eight match unbeaten run, we overtook Bermuda and Australia on the very final day to finish top of the rankings. As a fitting reward, we will host the upcoming One Day World Cup on home soil, something I couldn’t have wished for in my final swansong as manager.
They’ve been remarkable achievements all round, but one final challenge remains.
The EOS 65 One Day World Cup is just around the corner. It will be the last time I have the privilege of leading this wonderful group of players, and my aim is simple, to lift the World Cup. If I’m being honest, I’d gladly trade every achievement from the past six seasons for that one trophy that has continued to elude us. There’s no better way to sign off than by finally bringing it home.
Before I finish, there’s one person I simply have to thank, Shahzaday11 (Khurram Bhai).
Thank you for your dedication, commitment and unwavering support throughout my six seasons in charge. You’ve been the constant rock by my side from day one. Assistants have come and gone over the seasons, but you remained loyal until the very end. Your advice, support and friendship have meant more than words can express. Thank you, Sir.
Finally, thank you once again to everyone who has supported Pakistan U20s throughout this journey. Let’s give it one last push and hopefully finish this incredible chapter by bringing the World Cup home.
