Any age-limiting comp coming in will affect everyone

True, Looking at grade cricket in Australia the bottom couple of grades are typically young guns mixed in with a small number of older players who have experience. The top 3 grades are predominantly aged 23-27.GM-crowfan65 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 11:45 amI think more the other way to be honest, if we went 24 and under say, then allow 4 overage players

I like the idea of a 25 and under comp (so 25 year olds are included).GM-crowfan65 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 28, 2025 9:42 amu25 comp i think is a valid solution, something we spoke about 5yrs ago tbh
And why is potential off the table??
Personally, I've never really given any interest in the youth T20 games. I can see some managers have put forward different experience for different formats, which I think would give some more weight or use to the YT20 matches, but if that isn't implemented, I'd rather see that replaced with a 2nd XI/25 and under comp - almost more of a development XI. I know this is all within the realms of the match engine, so probably hard to implement, but quotas of aged players was mentioned. A 2nd XI comp where you can have, say, 5 players 21-26, 1 30+ and the rest are youth squad could be an interesting way to give the 21-26 crowd some exp, keep some of the older players relevant, and give more "experience" to youths - if you could work out a way to give more experience boosts based on the experience level of the 30+ player who is playing.
I'm very bad at this game, which I've been playing since season 1. But I like seeing players progress over time and am less likely to play the TM. I had wondered if a TM trading cap (based on amount of trades per season, as opposed to money) might make those who buy and sell and keep players all around the same age more likely to develop players than rely on the TM, but I know for some managers that's what excites and interests them.
Never going to please everyone all of the time, but a refresh of the game some 60 seasons in wouldn't go awry.
Otago manager.
