We finished the week with 4 of the best 5 players (based on fantasy points).

Irish lad Daniel Flanagan was the best with 284, then UAE dominance; Nazmi Jubair (280), Hussein Temiz (263), Ishan Ghafur (251), Mustafa Ibraheem (250).

Jubair scored the most runs for the tour with his 227!

Temiz was equal leading wicket taker (9 wickets taken by 3 players). Ghafur’s took 8 wickets, Ibraheem and Shareef 7 each.

Zafar Walliyulah was the best glovesman of the tour with Wally’s 9 catches and a stumping.

Temiz and Idris Abdul took 3 catches (equal best for the tour).

I think the theme of this tour has definitely been an underdog attitude of get someone to play a role and they’ll deliver their best. Our two biggest tour contributors (Temiz and Jubair) were players that almost missed the bus to the tour.

Let’s keep building on this and keep pulling UAE . With some solid following, smart training, tactical management and a lot of belief anything’s possible!

Well 2023 is almost upon us so what a better time to look back on the UAE's FTP achievements during 2022.

Our biggest by runs margin was on the 19th of October against South Africa in a Div 1 OD Tour [UAE U20 won by 135 runs]

No luck on day 1 with Thomas New Years Eve ripping through our top order. A 30 from Wally (Walliyullah) and some handy runs from the tail helped us creep to 101 but it was not nearly enough as England bossed it to win by 7 wickets with 3 overs to spare.

Around the grounds:
Scotland and the West Indies played out a draw!
The last 3 balls were [dropped], [misfield], [missed runout].
Scotland were outrated by 13k and managed to snag a draw.

Australia beat Zimbabwe by 6 wickets (boo, yawn, boring ).

Onwards and upwards! Scotland tomorrow! Tune in at 1500 if you can!

Batting was in strife when Wahhab got out in the first over making it 1 down for 2 runs, but Abdul and Sharif settled things with an 84 run partnership. Could have been in strife when they both got out within 3 balls of eachother, but Raghib and Kendrick settled things again to take our score to 138 off the 20 overs

Ghazi then struck twice in the second over to have Scotlands chase in ruins at 2/4. Things typically happen when Temiz bowls and happen did they dot wicket! dot dot six! wicket! Wahhab then joined the party with a wicket and should have had another that Raghib [dropped]. Scotland 5 down for 35 after 9 overs. Wickets fell regularly from the 15th over Wahhab got one, then Temiz, then Ameen, then Hasan and it would have been a wicket from every bowler in 5 consecutive overs but Ghazi had a chance spilled [dropped]. It didn’t matter much as Hasan got the wicket the next over, bowling Scotland out for 92 and giving the UAE lads their first taste of victory this tour!

Around the Grounds:
Boring Australia beat England by 34 runs
West Indies beat Zimbabwe by 6 wickets

Australia and West Indies look the teams to beat both rating in the 170ks when everyone else was in the 160k region. Luckily we get our chance to slay Goliath tomorrow when we take on the Aussies!

Ladder wise it’s a bit of a mess. The Aussies sit clear with their two wins, then WI with their win and draw, then us and England with one win each, then Scotland with their draw and then finally Zimbabwe bottom winless.

It’s going to take something special to take down the Aussies but everyone loves an underdog story! Tune in at 1500!

Two losses on Wednesday and Thursday leave our relegation avoidance in the hands of other nations but a win against the West Indies (who just beat Australia) gives us a chance.

Wednesday we were slain by Goliath. Our bowlers did okay restricting australia to 117 but our batting missed the umph and grit of one person standing up and making a decent total. Bowled out for 96 with half an over left.

Thursday saw a loss to Zimbabwe. Batting first we were rumbled by a wrist spinner. Frylinck took 6/14 as he cleaned up our middle order and tail to have us all out for 86. Despite a flurry of wickets later in their chase, Zimbabwe relatively cruised to the total.

State of play with one day left:
Australia and England sit top with 3 wins and a loss.
West Indies sit clear of the relegation fight with their 2 wins and a draw.
Then there’s Scotland with a win and a draw.
Then us and Zimbabwe with a win each.


Soooo mathematically maybes with Moose time:

If we lose to West Indies, off to Div 2 for us.

If we win and Australia beat Scotland and England beat Zimbabwe = we avoid the drop.

Finish strong with a win

In short it’s PowerBugs fault that we drop to Div 2.

Despite arguably our best batting performance of the week, we lose to the Windies by 10 runs.

Batting first, the windies basically carted our bowlers to all parts of the ground to set a total of 152. Hasan took 3 wickets but also went at 10 runs an over.

At 2/21 in the 5th over our chase was looking in all sorts of strife. The run rate required crept up to 10/11 runs an over in the 10th overs and that was always going to be difficult. Abdul and Kendrick batted well for 57 and 44 respectively.

We move on and our next focus is a div 1 OD tour in a few weeks time.

Also on YOD National Debut Today were Ubayd Yaseen (Germantown Cricket Club) who contributed with a nice 42, Serena Williams (Abu Dhabi Academy) who took 2 wickets, Atif Wahhab (Durhams), Shaikh Mullet (Roger Mullet Tribute XI), Wahid Nasih (Birds XI) and Dirar Ghazi (waityesno_sorrymate).

The boss said 250 was not enough runs and he was unfortunately correct as Ireland never looked stressed during the chase.

Zimbabwe beat Netherlands by 6 wickets.
Australia beat South Africa by 7 wickets.

Australia rated 187.5k, South Africa ~178k, we rated ~175.5k, Ireland rated ~174k, Netherlands ~168k and Zimbabwe ~167.5k.
I am sure those numbers mean something to someone.

Australia up tomorrow. The lads will be aware of their chance to make history with Australia currently holding a 6 match winning streak against us in the YOD format and Australia having won 9 of the last 10 outings in the format. The great thing about history, statistics, records, etc. it only takes one match for them to all be thrown in the bin. The lads will need to play the game, not the occasion and I am sure they'll give it their all.
