The Ashes CC won by 6 wickets

The Ashes CC Ruff Royals
Batting - Top Order 6,728 7,023
Batting - Middle Order 4,073 5,083
Batting - Tail 3,378 2,990
Bowling - Seam 5,989 (20) 5,314 (12)
Bowling - Spin 0 (0) 6,768 (8)
Fielding/Keeping 8,108 8,151
Overall 107,612 111,327

We were already promoted so I picked a weaker team (I think we both did). I still played some regulars for experience such as House, who scored 83 from 54 balls, and Schmidt, who scored 55 not out. The bowlers weren't good enough to defend 151 on a green pitch. Milton did finish with 2-19 though.

Another game for experience with nothing really to play for on my part. We bowled first on a dry pitch and we did alright until towards the end when my young bowlers got punished. The batters struggled but there was one stand-out performance by 22-year-old opener Mills, who hit a fine 59 from 65 balls.

We stayed in the league which was the main thing this season.

Thankfully we had already avoided relegation, so this embarrassing loss doesn't matter.

That turned out to be closer to relegation than I would have liked.

Dry pitch and we decided to bat first. I was really happy to reach 243. Bullock hit 43, Patterson 73, and Schmidt 56 not out from 48 balls.

We struggled to take wickets but 2 quick wickets brought things back in our favour at 135-4 with 25 overs gone. Again, the wickets dried up and it wasn't looking good after an onslaught left them at 225-4 needing 19 with 2 overs left. There were 3 wickets in the penultimate over, including 2 runouts. With only 13 runs needed to save themselves and get us relegated the nerves were certainly jangling. It was OBB Westerveld to bowl the last over and his figures were standing at 0-55 from 7 overs; I was not confident! He was excellent in the last over though; he only conceded 4 runs and picked up a wicket on the last ball of the season.

Ruff Royals Snakey's Kent Stars
Batting - Top Order 7,299 7,980
Batting - Middle Order 5,783 5,891

Bowling - Spin 7,895 (32) 6,098 (16)
Fielding/Keeping 8,772 8,552
Overall 128,671 122,925

Ruff Royals won by 8 runs

So it's survival but I'm not exactly proud of myself as I felt we should have been too good to go down.

If it wasn't for the nail-biting last few overs this would have been my favourite moment of the match (I'm easily amused, I know):

A. Patterson to A. Patterson : Brings out the reverse sweep, but didn't read the change and loses the middle peg.

Fielding/Keeping 17,191 15,316
Overall 240,928 216,652

solid performance to finish off the season, winning by 59 runs. Consecutive 2nd place finishes which is nice, although the circumstances couldn't be any different to last season when we only just missed out on the title, this season Inchigeela have been head and shoulders above the rest of the field, and will go into next season as heavy favourites again.

Gonna be very close for the 2nd relegation spot between Ffoh and Pedagogs, commiserations to whoever does go down, which if my calculations are right will be Pedagogs by the smallest of margins. Tough to be going down with a 6/8 record, but it's been a very competitive league this year.

Need to try and bring in a few reinforcements over preseason, as things will only be harder next season!

An expected loss, was already relegated, so gave a couple of younger players much needed experience.

Thanks Eagles ,
Agree about it being competitive this year, although thought I’d done enough to avoid the chop - now ive stopped swearing, it might be the glass is half full: should be able to bounce back next year, give my youngsters some experience and have a decent cup run
