U20 Tournament Review

Post by ukrooster » Sun Aug 16, 2026 8:43 am

Welcome to the U20 NT Tournament Review Thread, where the manager relives every twist, turn, triumph and train wreck from the latest tournament. From moments of tactical genius to incidents that make you wonder whether some participants were legally supervised, nothing is off-limits. Supporters can look forward to a complete breakdown of the good, the bad, and the "how did this happen without immediate intervention?" The result: a treasure trove of information you didn't know you needed and, in many cases, would happily erase from your memory forever.

T20 Tournament - Tour Dates 07 Sep 2026 - 12 Sep 2026

Touring Party

Arryn Brewers
Nickname: Pint Swigger

Story:
Claims he can bat, bowl and captain, but mainly specialises in organising post-match drinks. Once took 4 wickets after turning up two overs late because he'd stopped for a kebab. Maintains his strike rate improves in direct proportion to the number of beers consumed.

Lucas Coller
Nickname: The Fridge

Story:
Bowls at the exact same speed regardless of conditions, opposition or effort. Once delivered 24 consecutive balls on exactly the same line and length. Scientists are still studying how someone can generate so little excitement while taking so many wickets.

Bubbles Conky
Nickname: Champagne Gloves

Story:
Appeals for absolutely everything. Once appealed for LBW from behind square leg. Dropped three catches in a final but still ended up with Man of the Match after convincing everyone they were "strategic misses."

Pat Coward
Nickname: Deep Fine Dread

Story:
Loves bowling but hates being hit. His preferred field placement is nine men on the boundary and one in the clubhouse ordering chips. Celebrated a maiden over once like he'd won the Ashes.

Wombat Cummins
Nickname: The Burrowing Spinner

Story:
Short, stocky and impossible to move. Known for bowling balls that somehow get lower after bouncing. Once spent an entire drinks break digging a hole to improve his run-up.

Clarke Dykes
Nickname: The Dam Wall

Story:
Has never knowingly scored quickly despite being a Big Hitter. Made 12 from 137 balls in a T20 and still insists it was "setting a platform." Local groundskeepers use his innings videos to combat insomnia.

Cammo Engellender
Nickname: Now You See Him

Story:
Can dominate a game for four overs then disappear for six weeks. Nobody knows where he fields because nobody can ever find him. Rumoured to blend into sightscreens when conditions suit.

Lionel French
Nickname: Le Swing

Story:
Adds a French accent whenever he takes a wicket. Once called his spell "magnifique" after figures of 1/47 off 2 overs. Has never forgiven an umpire for failing to appreciate his artistic line and length.

Neil Henty
Nickname: Silent Neil

Story:
Hardly says a word. Batted with the same partner for three years before learning his name. The only noise ever heard from him was after hitting a six and accidentally pulling a hamstring celebrating.

Judd Home
Nickname: Staycation

Story:
Phenomenal at home, hopeless away. Once forgot his bat, pads and trousers for an away fixture but remembered a portable speaker and camping chair. Calls every away ground "unfamiliar conditions."

Turtle Larsen
Nickname: Overnight Test Match

Story:
Rotates strike so slowly teammates age visibly at the other end. Once survived 20 overs without attempting a shot and described it as "positive intent." Opposition captains secretly love bowling to him.

Joey Matthews
Nickname: Pocket Rocket

Story:
Five foot nothing, runs in like he's late for a flight and celebrates every wicket by sprinting halfway to the clubhouse. Claims to bowl 150kph spin. Teammates generously estimate 35kph pies.

Nobby McLeish
Nickname: The Village Elder

Story:
Has been "near retirement" since 2007. Starts every sentence with "back in my day." Owns bats older than some teammates and reminds everyone at least six times per innings.

Blayne O'Donoghue
Nickname: State Trial

Story:
Mentioned once that he attended a State trial at age 14 and accidentally created a lifelong reputation. Brings it up more often than his actual wickets.

Trevor Pasquill
Nickname: Two-Beers Trev

Story:
Exactly two beers transforms him from fifth change plodder into what he believes is peak Dennis Lillee. Unfortunately everyone else witnesses a dramatic loss of accuracy.

Grant Rigardi
Nickname: The Italian Stallion

Story:
Shadow bats before every delivery. Shadow bats between deliveries. Shadow bats while waiting for tea. Once looked magnificent for 6 before yorking himself.

Antoni Scott
Nickname: Scotty No Ref

Story:
Questions every umpiring decision regardless of which team benefits. Once argued so passionately for both sides in the same over that nobody knew what he actually wanted.

Benji Self
Nickname: One-Man Team

Story:
Calls loudly for singles that don't exist and declines easy ones. Once ran himself out, blamed his partner and wrote a three-paragraph explanation in the team chat.

Garth Winberg
Nickname: The Win Machine

Story:
Has an uncanny ability to be batting when his team wins and sitting in the pavilion when they lose. Claims it's leadership. Statistics suggest it's luck bordering on witchcraft.

Benny Zadow
Nickname: The Phantom

Story:
Half the club isn't convinced he exists. Appears every few weeks, takes 3 wickets, says nothing, leaves early. Opposition scorebooks contain more sightings of Bigfoot than Benny.

Team Reputation

"The Misfield Marauders"

A team is famous for:

- Losing tosses they actually won.
- Taking catches nobody should take.
- Dropping catches everybody should take.
- Spending longer discussing post-match food than team selection.
- Genuinely believing this is finally their tournament
