Netherlands vs Zimbabwe One Day Friendly
Netherlands vs Zimbabwe One Day Friendly
Well, it's good to be back after a couple of seasons break from the NAT scene. Thanks to Abee for getting in touch and allowing me to join in as Assistance of the U20s team. I look forward to hopefully seeing some success in the next couple of seasons for the team.
It was great to start back off with a friendly win, which saw our lads host Zimbabwe in a One Day Friendly at the great Amsterdam Arena in front of 6,982 people in a high scoring affair.
The Zimbabweans won the toss, and elected to bat first in Hard/Overcast conditions. Zimbabwe posted a healthy total of 5/303, with Tsweu Mahlunge leading the way with 79 not out. We also saw half centuries from Antonie Wylie (75 of 67) and David Stuurman (65 off 54). Marvin Braafheid was the best of the bowlers for the Dutch, picking up 3/55 from his 10 overs. Bert van de Meent also took an economical 1/32 off his 10 overs. With Zimbabwe scoring 98 in their last 10 overs, it was going to be an enthralling chase.
In response, our Dutch lads got off to a slightly nervy start seeing opening batsman Simon van der Laan fall in the 5th over for 11. This then saw Stephan van der Pol & Quentin Kruijswijk combine for an 80 run partnership to get the chase back on track. In what was a see-sawing run chase, the Dutch lads managed to bring home the win, chasing down the total in the 49th over. Notable run scorers being Joost Brentjens (87* off 74 balls), Quentin Kruijswijk (59 off 61 balls) & Johannes van der Graaf (58 off 59 balls).
Joost Brentjens was awarded Man of The Match for his efforts with the bat.
Overall, a very promising display by the team in this friendly match which saw 6 players make their NAT debut in any format. We now cast our eyes over the to upcoming Friendly encounters against Sri Lanka, India & England before commencing the first official One Day fixtures on the 23rd of December.
