I stood in the shadows of the valley and I dreamed a great dream, a dream of summiting the highest of peaks, of walking in the SUNSHINE against all odds. I fought the cold of the night and I learnt to dance in the uncomfortable. I knew that my time would come and when it did it would be BEAUTIFUL.

Take a walk now in history with me. 31st of March 2021, Division 2.
UAE hosting a tour in South Africa.
UAE BEAT AUSTRALIA despite being outrated by 16k.
Our only win of the tour.

Since then, all OD matches against Australia have been Division 1.
We have won 2 OD titles in that time, Australia 3, Netherlands 1.
The last 5 U20 One Day titles have been won by two nations. The Australian Giant and the United Arab Emirates GIANT SLAYER.
Alas in all our success, we have endured our longest losing streak (in a competitive format) against AUSTRALIA.
SIX LOSSES. Four by 5 wickets, one by 3 wickets and one by just the one agonising wicket (yes we've batted first the last 8 YODs against Australia).

BUT TODAY, WE TOOK DESTINY INTO OUR OWN HANDS. We said have your 14k rating superiority, we will hold our nerve and take the win.

Wally and Abdul got things rolling for us with a 69 run opening stand (NICE). Walliyullah making 54 of 69 balls. Ka'im and Yaseen then steadied with a 50 run partnership. Some late order hitting saw us set Australia 231 to win.

End of the 7th over. Australia 0/40 RR 5.71 RRR 4.44

8th over to be bowled by Serena Williams.

End of the 8th over. Australia 2/43 RR 5.38 RRR 4.48.
Both set batsmen dismissed.

10th over, last ball. WIlliams has a third!

End of the 14th over. RR 4.57 RRR 4.64

15th over, Williams makes another chance but it's turfed [DROPPED]

34th over, Goggin on 50 is dropped off of S Wahhab's bowling.

35th over, Attard on 31 is dropped off of Armanjani's bowling.

36th over, BANG BANG. S Wahhab takes two in two balls.
End of the 36th, Australia 5/156, RR 4.33 RRR 5.36

End of the 42nd over, Australia are 5/192, RR 4.57 RRR 4.88. Goggin on 72 and Gower on 19.

Jabbar to bowl the 43rd over.

End of the 43rd over, Australia are 7/195, RR 4.53 RRR 5.14. Both set batsmen are out.

Armanjani joins the party with the last bowl of the 45th over. Australia are 8/207, needing 24 from 5 overs.

Australia need 19 from the last 3 overs. Serena Williams to bowl the 48th over.

Wicket Single Wicket!

Serena gets her Grand Slam (5 wicket haul) and the UAE LADS ARE ON TOP OF THE WORLD (metaphorically).

What a win!

Serena was phenomenal and Wahhab and Wally were fantastic!

Our win makes the tour ladder interesting after 2 matches.
Ireland sit on top unbeaten.
South Africa, Australia, UAE, Zimbabwe all have the 1 win.
Netherlands are winless.

Next for us is South Africa and it would certainly be a good one to win!
TUNE IN TOMORROW. :clap :clap

Nasih, Shahriar and Ibraheem all chipped in with 40s as we set South Africa 249 to win.

Ameen then gets the 2 openers out in his opening spell to have South Africa 2/23 after 9 overs. South Africa somewhat settled to be 4/140 after 35 overs but the RRR was almost double their going RR. They then went on to lose their last 6 wickets for just 28 runs in 7 overs.

Hello, good evening, good morning, good afternoon, whatever it be…

Do I have a treat for you all!
Double the Manager = Double the Fun
Not one, but two UAE National Managers. I am joined by U20 Manager Heppa and Senior Manager NPD-PowerBug ahead of the upcoming respective World Cups!

Both World Cups commence on the 20th of Feb – hit and giggle for the seniors and the respectable format for the youths! Seniors play daily at 0500 and Youths play at 1300.

I start with the obvious question, the one on everyone’s mind. Is life meaningless?
Sorry, wrong run sheet.

Are both of these World Cup’s blatantly Australia’s to lose?
Both: Yep, yeah, yep.

Let’s now play a montage of all our previous World Cup Wins.
{3 Minutes of Silence}
H: Well, that was rude.
PB: Absolutely disgusting.

All jokes aside, how do you both rate our chances in these upcoming World Cups:
PB: I'm a little unsure. On one hand we've been drawn a tough pitch draw for our strengths, but I also do really believe in these players. We have a great core who are primed to go for this exact World Cup. Two seasons ago we put up a 3 win week in the World Cup, I'll set the standard there again this time.
H: Better chance than the Seniors, that’s for sure!

What key players are you expecting a lot from this World Cup?

PB: Two names here: Hud Sam and Al Capone.
Hud will collect his 60th senior UAE appearance during the World Cup week, an incredible feat.
Al Capone is used to murdering the opposition’s bad bowling and we are going to need him to focus on his batting this World Cup. Al has gone through a bit of a form slump at club level this season (averaging only 8.86 in ODs this season). Due to this and after a stern conversation, management have decided to let Al focus on his batting this week and relieve him of the National Captaincy.

H: ALIM AMEEN.
If the NBB F lives up to his potential, he could be etching World Cup Winning Player of the Tournament into his CV. Absolute star.
Abdul and Mullet are two players we will need to perform, if we’re going to compete!

Fantastic all round performance to beat England by 106 runs
285 with that bat (thanks to a stellar ton from Yaseen) always going to be too much on humid/dry and a strong collective effort from the bowlers saw England ao for 179 :party

Result: UAE U20 won by 106 runs
Toss: UAE U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: Ubayd Yaseen (3 points), Jonny Bairstow (2), Arif Lahab (1)

Starts from basically every bat in the top order and a wonderful hundred from Yaseen saw us set 285! Was always going to be a lot of runs to defend and our bowlers were seen smiling ear to ear during the innings break.

It would be amiss of me not to talk in detail of Yaseens knock. In his 5th National appearance, he finally delivered after missing out on some really good starts. His 124 coming from 119 balls including 5 fours and 3 sixes. Coming out in the 10th over at 1/40 to then be dismissed at 7/254 in the 48th over.

Wickets were well spread - Serena picked up two and the two finger spinners (Shahriar and Lahab) both took 3 wickets. Fittingly it was the man of the day Yaseen that finished things up with a runout to end Englands innings.

Around the grounds:

USA beat India by 6 wickets.
Australia beat the Netherlands by 137 runs.
Bermuda beat the West Indies by 11 runs.

South Africa beat Ireland by 4 wickets.
Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by 84 runs.

It’s a wonderful start with both sides snagging very nice wins but it’s merely the bottom of the mountain, the first km of the marathon, etc. The seniors take on the West Indies with play kicking of at 0500!

Result: UAE U20 won by 45 runs

Man of the match: Serena Williams (3 points), Alim Ameen (2), Nassar Nasri (1)

Starts to Abdul (27), Saad [no relation to the Carlton player] (47),
Nasri (39) and Jabbar (35) saw us sneak to a total of 213. In the conditions it felt like not enough. :|

Tight bowling at the start meant Sri Lanka started slowing but then Sri Lanka would get the run rate near the required and 💥 wicket. They’d settle then 💥 wicket! Then it was suddenly raining wickets! A 5 over spell where they lost 4 wickets for 20 runs and then they settled and looked somewhat in control of the chase and then 💥 another 5 over spell where they lost 4 wickets for 21 runs.. Game over!

Around the Grounds
West Indies beat India by 7 wickets
USA beat Netherlands by 12 runs (an absolute runfest with 3 centurions and almost 700 runs)
Australia beat Bermuda by 7 wickets (also had 2 centurions and 600 odd runs)

England beat South Africa by 7 wickets
Ireland beat Zimbabwe by 6 wickets

In group 1 Australia and the USA sit top with two wins each, then the West Indies and Bermuda with a win each, India and the Netherlands winless.

USA, Australia and the West Indies all rated 175k in their second match (Bermuda 173k). Both leaders play the West Indies in their remaining games. USA also play Bermuda, where Australia play India (who have been struggling so far this tour and Australia shouldn’t have any difficulty winning that one) [commentators curse please 🙏🏻].

Australia Vs USA is Friday and could possibly play as a play off for top spot.

In group 2, we sit top of the heap with our 2 wins, then everyone else with one win except Zimbabwe who are winless.

Day 2 ratings went England (177k), SA (175k), Zimbabwe, Ireland and Sri Lanka (all 171k), then us (165k).

A win tomorrow would certainly help without putting us completely out of the woods. We go again at 1300 against Zimbabwe.

The seniors are up next at 0500 against New Zealand!

Man winning sure is nice, four more wins thanks 🙏🏻

Mullet (60) and Salah (57) saw us put up 237. This was enough to allow our bowlers to pile on the pressure and that pressure then ruptured Zimbabwe with the last two wickets coming from runouts!

Around the grounds:
Australia beat West Indies by 3 wickets
USA beat Bermuda by 4 wickets
Netherland beat India by 1 wicket - a wagging Dutch tail holding on to win a thriller!

England beat Ireland by 52 runs.
Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 26 runs.

In group 1 australia and usa sit clear with their 3 runs. Then each with one win sit West Indies, Bermuda and the Netherlands. India are winless and unfortunately their World Cup dream is over.

A win from Australia and/or USA tomorrow guarantees their finals attendance. Wins for both of them make Friday a first place play off.

In group 2 we sit clear with our 3 wins, then Sri Lanka and England with 2 wins, then Ireland and South Africa with 1 win. Zimbabwe are winless and will be playing for pride in their next two matches.

For us it’s simple, win, then win, then win, then win!!!

There’s our stumble for the week, it’s done, we move forward.

4 wickets to Jabbar, runs to Ka’Im and Abdul. A collapse on a batting friendly position after being in a comfortable position.

A win tomorrow all but guarantees topping the group - that is the goal. A small loss still sees us go through in most scenarios.

In the other group usa play aus with winner topping the group and loser progressing regardless.

YEAH BABY THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!

Tomorrow we beat USA and Sunday we beat the Australians (probably). Easy right?

Home Ireland U20
Away UAE U20
Ground Astwood AllStars CG
League U-20 One Day World Cup
Date 24 Feb. 23 13:00
Crowd 19,000
Weather Sunny
Pitch Sticky

Ireland U20 UAE U20
Batting - Top Order 9,491 10,187
Batting - Middle Order 8,070 8,379
Batting - Tail 5,287 3,650
Bowling - Seam 9,572 (30) 8,970 (40)
Bowling - Spin 10,344 (20) 10,047 (10)
Fielding/Keeping 10,291 10,528
Overall 166,388 162,733

Result: UAE U20 won by 19 runs
Toss: UAE U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: Ubayd Yaseen (3 points), Daoud Armanjani (2), Levi Tate (1)

A well crafted 62 from Yaseen formed the basis of our batting innings which saw us set Ireland 196 to win.

Wahhab and D.Armanjani went to work, taking wickets in clusters and ultimately bowling Ireland out!

That win sees us top the group and we now play the USA. Australia who beat USA to top the other group now play England who scraped through by 0.05 NRR after their loss today.

Great to top the group, but this is where the lads have to focus. History doesn’t recall semi finalist or runner ups. It’s time to win a World Cup! 🇦🇪 🇦🇪 🇦🇪

Don’t cry because it’s over, cry because it happened.

(Pretty sure that’s the saying, I am great at recalling sayings.

Man of the match: Johnny Ryan (3 points), Seif Shahriar (2), Armando Harrington (1)

This week, we won every game where we batted first and lost every game where we bowled first.

“We really wanted to bat first” - Heppa and also probably every uae supporter at the ground.

It was a very typical slow pitch match, with both batting innings scrapping together starts with out one batsmen shining. Unfortunately 🇺🇸 scrapped better.

Shoutout to Shariar who took 5 wickets!

And let’s have a look at the other semi final -

Overall 175,989 171,575

Result: Australia U20 won by 7 wickets
Toss: England U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: Blaze Vollugi (3 points), Lindsay Hervey (2), Wendell Towns (1)

England batting first on a green top were rattled (no baz ball here :/). Vollugi taking 6fa and taking 4/7 in his second spell to mop up the tail.

There was no stumble as the Aussies chased down the miserly total with ease!

This means the Aussies and the USA get a replay of Fridays match which the Aussies won comfortably.

Throwing my full support and well wishes toward the USA management. It’s not easy to beat the Aussies in a world cup final (Penky and Heppa can testify to that - they’ve certainly tried numerous times).

And for us, we move on - I’ll do a full tour wrap shortly.
