WOWE THAT's WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

I actually don't know how to do write ups when we're winning so maybe I'll go back on hiatus.

Home Australia U20
Away UAE U20
Ground MCG
League U-20 T20 World Cup
Date 08 Nov 22 00:00
Crowd 21,499
Weather Cloudy
Pitch Crumbling

Australia U20 UAE U20
Batting - Top Order 10,220 10,436
Batting - Middle Order 8,807 9,693
Batting - Tail 5,248 4,300
Bowling - Seam 10,528 (8) 9,273 (8)
Bowling - Spin 11,805 (12) 9,932 (12)
Fielding/Keeping 11,316 10,606
Overall 182,275 173,576

Result: UAE U20 won by 6 wickets
Toss: Australia U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: Amir Wahid (3 points), Charles Porter (2), Lukey Charlesworth (1)

The beast outrated us by just under 10k but was slain in front of a MCG crowd number that would make Petracca say cmon fans get to the games.

Some tight bowling from Hanif Is a Hack (0/16) and Tariq the Sheriff (2/14) saw Australia restricted to 3/109 off the 20 overs. 2 stumpings for Jafar on a crumbler no small feat either.

Kendrick will remember to be Humble after he quacked off in the first over of our chase. Fortunately Wahid stood tall with an unbeaten 59 to see out the chase with 4 balls to go.

Around the Grounds:
South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets
Sri Lanka beat Kenya by 5 wickets
All three chases going into the final over.

After two matches we sit clear off the pack with our two wins. Sri Lanka, Kenya, Australia and South Africa all have the one win, whilst Zimbabwe are yet to register a win.

We play Zimbabwe next and we will look to keep the winning march going and keep the pressure on the other teams.
Just here to contribute a few cracking commentary lines and spend hours on the transfer market.

Perfectly summed up.

We missed a few chances, but our bowlers were brilliant in keeping the runs down. It was a below par score so our bats just needed to turn up.

Lots of work to do still.

Result: UAE U20 won by 6 wickets
Toss: UAE U20 won the toss and elected to bowl.
Man of the match: Kamil Abbas (3 points), Abdul Qasem (2), Deon Krog (1)

Young gun Ameen striked twice early before Abbas chimed in with 3 and Ghafur snagged 2 as the bowling unit managed to restrict Zimbabwe to 7-139 off their 20 overs.

Abdul fell in the first over before Qasem and Abbas settled things with a 50 run partnership. Two relatively quick wickets made for a little bit of tension before Qasem found an ally in Kendrick Lamar. Some damn good late hitting from the pair saw us chase down the required runs with 2 overs and 6 wickets to spare.

Around the Grounds:
Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 8 wickets.
Australia beat Kenya by 17 runs.

After 3 matches Group 1 ladder sits:
UAE - 3 wins
Australia, Sri Lanka - 2 wins
South Africa, Kenya - 1 win
Zimbabwe - 0 wins

Over in Group 2 the ladder sits:
Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland - 2 wins
USA - 1 win
West Indies - 0 wins

USA's win today against England means that Group tightens and the final days play could be very interesting.

For us, tomorrow our attention turns to Kenya.
Tune in 00.00 game time.

Phew 😅

We hold on by 8 runs.

Zimbabwe upset Sri Lanka to lock away our safe progression to the finals.

Australia rolled a South Africa who failed to rock up.

Group 2 is complete carnage.

Result: UAE U20 won by 8 runs
Toss: UAE U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: Amir Wahid (3 points), Rashad Jabbar (2), Ishan Ghafur (1)

Not a great start to the match with Abbas holing out in the first over, leaving us at 1/4 after the first over. The beautiful Qasem and Abdul momentarily settled things, before Abul was clean bowled for 13. Abdul kicked on to 43 including a 50 run partnership with Wahid before an embarrasing mix up in the middle led to Abdul being runout. Wahid made up for it with some crisp late hitting including 4 boundaries in the last two overs to rescue our innings and leave us 133 to defend.

Some tight early bowling and a wicket for Abbas left Kenya 1/21 after 4 overs. Jabbar then struck to take Kenya to 2/31 before Ameen struck twice in two balls to leave Kenya 4/70 after 12 overs. Jabbar snagged another and could have possibly had 3 more if the lads had held their catches. Nonetheless the pressure mounted and the final 3 overs saw five wickets fall (2 to Ghafur, 1 to Shareef and two runouts).

In the late carnage, we held our nerve to win by 8 runs, securing our 4th win of the week.

Around The Grounds:
Australia beat South Africa by 105 runs
Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by 21 runs

Today's results guarantee our promotion.

Now time for Moose's Mad Match Mathematics:
If Australia win, they're into the finals.
If Australia lose, they're probably still into the finals. I think if I can maths correctly Australia would need to lose by 70+ and Sri Lanka would need to beat us by 70+.

Over in the other group, thinks are not so clean cut.

5 teams can still mathematically make it to the finals.
The winless West Indies will be playing for pride when they take on USA tomorrow. USA will be looking to have a NRR boosting win over the West Indies to give themselves an outside chance at finishing second.

Canada play England and Ireland play Scotland in what essentially become knock-out shoot offs. Winner could take all (NRR allowing).
If Canada and/or Scotland win, they progress, no questions asked.

The fun scenario is that 5 teams could end on 3 wins and 2 losses (if Ireland beat Scotland and England beat Canada and USA beat West Indies). In that scenario, calculators out, NRR will be critical. Canada hold the upper hand +0.8 NRR on the rest of the pack but a big loss tomorrow could see Canada miss the finals.

Tune in for what is sure to be one hell of a final day of group play. :party

Brilliant write up.

Has been a solid week for our guys. The fielding has been disappointing but we've somehow avoided giving away too many runs as a result. Looking forward to being back into the finals. Maybe we can go one extra this time and give ourselves our first WC trophy?

Qasem having a wonderful week, another 56 to his tally as he carried us to 135.

The bowlers spread 5 wickets and we snagged a runout but ultimately not enough to stop Sri Lanka chasing down our total with 3 balls to spare.

The loss means we dropped to second in the group after South Africa threw against Australia yesterday....

After the Group Stages the ladders sit:
Australia, UAE [Qualify] - 4 wins
Sri Lanka - 3 wins
Kenya - 2 wins
Zimbabwe, South Africa - 1 win

The other group incredibly had 5 teams finish with 3 wins and 2 losses.
Ireland and Canada progressing on NRR.

Both Semi Finals play at 00.00 tomorrow 12th November:

Ireland Vs UAE at Sunrise CG on a Slow Deck with Humid Conditions

Yet again this week - Abbas has lead from the front and produced with both the bat and ball.

The ever consistent Ameen picked up another two fa twenty odd as Ireland managed 124.

Abbas and Mundhir off to a great start with a 68 run opening partnership. Abbas getting to 49 unbeaten to see out the win with 6 wickets and 6 balls remaining.

Australia beat Canada comfortably so we will have to slay goliath to win the gold.

Abbas has been phenomenal. He averages 87.50 from his 4 innings as opener, as well as 5 wickets with the ball. Leads the tournament by fantasy points.

Another mention is deserved by Abdul Qasem. Bit of a surprise performer with his 3 half centuries and leads the tournament for runs.

I'm not sure if he will be fit enough for the final. We will see.

Not sure we could’ve done much more sadly. 16k outrated in a final is just ridiculous.

Despite our 6 bowlers, Australia amassed 144. Ameen was excellent again with his 1/7 off 2 overs and Ishaq defiant with his 1/21 off his 4 overs. The future is bright with Ameen and truly excited to see what he can do if we can get him to another world cup.

World Cup Wrap Up

Result: Runners Up - losing to Australia in the World Cup in front of a less than half full MCG

Lets do a bit of a deep dive into the statistics, lets start with Team Overall Rating Rankings.
Australia's 7 match ratings were greater than all other teams match ratings in any game.
England the next best and we snagged the 18th best overall ranking in our win against Australia on Tuesday.
The fact that Australia's worst rating was 3k better than anyone else's best ranking really speaks for itself...

Our top order rated 4th and 5th best in our wins against Australia and South Africa.
Our middle order snagged the second best rating in our Semi Final win against Ireland.

In fantasy points, Kamil Abbas lead all comers with a massive 387 points over his 5 matches. Alim Ameen, Amir Wahid and Abdul Qasem all making the top 10 for FPs.

Abbas would've won the tournament MVP with the most 3-2-1 points and both Abbas and Wahid snagged the equal most Man of the Match awards (with 3 other players).

Qasem lead the tournament in run scoring his 200 the most in the tournament. Abbas had the 3rd most with his 185 and Wahid the 6th best with his 165.

Ameen was equal leading wicket taker with his 9 wickets.

Rashad Jabbar had the equal most runouts with his 2 runouts. Funnily the other player with 2 runouts was Australia's spare keeper...

This world cup means the end of youth national representation for 10 of our squad (if I can count).

Abdul Qasem from ING CUP CC - 9 appearances over both formats for 289 runs and 3 catches.
Rabi Mundhir from Sodor Cricket Club - 5 T20 appearances for 64 runs and a catch.
Ya'qub Bahib from Emirates Academy - 16 appearances over both formats for 340 runs and 4 catches.
Kamil Abbas from One Man Rock Band - 14 appearances over both formats, for 369 runs, 17 wickets and 6 catches.
Ismael Jafar from Western Suburbs Hacks - 4 appearances over both formats for 96 runs, 2 catches with the gloves and 3 stumpings.
Hanif Ishaq from Buggles United - 3 T20 appearances for 33 runs.
Badri Shakur from Midhirst Cricket Club - 5 appearances over both formats, 52 runs, 5 catches with the gloves and a stumping.
Rashad Jabbar from Bushveldt Carbineers - 11 appearances over both formats, 141 runs, 6 wickets, 3 catches and 2 runouts.
Nazim Ayasha from Emirates Academy - 5 T20 appearances for 25 runs, a catch and a runout.

We thank all these players and their respective managers.

To the rest of the squad, lets hope they learn from this and bring their best should they be picked for the next tour.

Thanks all for tuning into my rabble. See you in a few weeks!
