S51 Week 9
Definitely a quieter week this one. Calm before the storm.

Friendlies
We had two friendlies this week, vs New Zealand on a Windy/Uneven, and then vs USA on a Humid/Flat. We managed to win both which was very very nice.

Against New Zealand we had a very well rounded bowling performance, all 5 bowlers took 2 wickets! Taking 3 wickets in the first 10 overs set up the match very well. In the chase we lost Kedar first ball but after that we pushed the run rate along quickly and despite a few nervy moments when we fell to 7 down, the tail pulled through for the win. To rate 260k with a side that was entire under 30.00yo was a nice result, and beating a Div 1 OD side is a confidence boost.

The USA match again was set up in the first 10 overs with our quick bowlers restricting USA to 5/44 early on. The recovered to 175 but we were never troubled in the chase. USA are one of our Div 3 opponents, a good warm up for a fortnight's time.

Time for some congratulations. In that New Zealand match we had 3 debutants! Jabril Kamal {2-49}, Akil Dhul {10 (22), 2-34}, and Jakeem Khoury {50 (67)} all playing their first match for the senior team. Looking forward to many more for them all, especially for Kamal who is a 27yo ws.

Tours
The hosting rights have been won by.... UAE! Matches will be held in Scotland (09:00) on Hard, Flat and Uneven pitches. No excuses not to promote given we have the pitches we want, right? WC qualification is on the line, we have a big job ahead of us in Week 12 to get the wins needed.

The Future
No further updates from last week on this one.

Week 10
- Sort out the tour squad
- Continue with S53 WC watchlist

S51 Weeks 10-11
Two quiet weeks haha, but we did have some friendly matches to talk about :)

Friendlies
4 friendlies to update you on. For them I picked 4 Div 1 sides, I wanted to test our ability against them. We had Canada, South Africa, West Indies and Sri Lanka. In the end we went 1-3, beating Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The Canada match we fell just short, losing by 1 wicket (They were 112-8 chasing 163). I'm impressed that we won the toss and batted first on all 4 occasions tbh. No debutants in these games, the squad has remained the same and we've given all 30 a run out at some point.

Tours
I start by quoting last week: "No excuses not to promote given we have the pitches we want, right?". Well we landed the 3rd choice pitch 4 times and the 2nd choice pitch once. So that's not fun at all :( I still believe in us. The first match is underway as I type this, head over and check it out! The squad list is posted there among running updates

Week 12

S51 Week 12
A tour week!

Friendlies
With a T20 WC approaching, we played a T20 friendly vs Australia on Saturday, and it went well. We rolled them for 73 on a Humid/Uneven and chased it 5 down with 27 balls spare. All the bowlers chipped in with a wicket, it was a good all round performance :)

Tours
Sigh. Sorry. We didn't promote. I want to blame the pitches, but we had chances. We went W/L/W/L/W for the week. Day 1 beating the Aussies comfortably was a clear highlight, the Day 4 collapse is the killer though. We were 2-92 and cruising, also 3-111 still cruising. But we got rolled for 166 and then it got chased down too easily.

It's going to make WC Qualification very tough from here. We're 16th, 6 points (3 wins) away from 12th, 5-0 followed by a 3-2 would see us finish on 31 points, for reference 12th in the current YOD set up is on 34 points. We will obviously keep pushing, this is a setback for sure and it's not nice to be in this scenario. I think it's unfortunate but our aim in the two SOD tours next season will be to make sure we start next tenure in at least Div 2.

World Cup
On the positive side though, we have a T20 World Cup approaching! And for those who don't remember we went 4-1 in the T20 tour and promoted to Div 1, which will be amazing to see the UAE fighting with the big boys in that tour next season. Now the draw and pitches for that are out, the matches are in NZ (22:00 start times) and we have the following matches to look forward to:

Dry vs Canada
Flat vs India
Uneven vs USA
Uneven vs Netherlands
Green vs England

This week ahead we pick the 18 player tour squad to best suit those pitches (and the random draw for when we make at least the semi finals), so keep an eye out for a message on Sunday morning to see if your player gets picked!

Future Stars
Now given the bad news with the SOD qualification, we're going to drop the S53 watchlist correspondence, most of the players we picked up on were in the 30 already anyway. We will get started on the S55 group however :)

S51 Review
And so comes the end of the first season of the new tenure. It's been an exciting one and it's been great to be back involved with the NAT scene again.

Tours
SOD record: 5-5
T20 Record: 4-1

Overall I would say it's a pass on the competitive scene. It's obviously very disappointing to have not promoted in the last OD tour, but that is balanced out by the T20 promotion to Div 1 and subsequent WC qualification not just for the immediate WC, but very likely the next T20 one as well. There's still a lot of work to do to try and get the most out of this squad, alot of our key players still have ample time left in their careers to make the most of what is ahead of us.

Friendlies
ODF Record: 9-7
T20F Record: 2-3

These ultimately aren't that important, it's nice to be able to test different match orders and different combinations together. Sometimes playing a best 11 other times pretending it's a tour so not playing the most optimal line-up. It's also nice to make sure that all players who make the 30 are given friendly matches, everyone is important we do value every single player who comes through our ranks.

Squad
Speaking of players in our 30, it's time to give a farewell to one of the best. The majority of the squad changes will come in to effect after the World Cup is finished, but this player deserves his own mention. Nawfal Shadi played 35 competitive matches for the UAE, taking 48 wickets in that time. A captain, a powerful man (Still has elite power nearing 32yo), he also possesses a mean slower ball. He was still in contention for a place on the plane to the WC but ultimately just missed out.

Season 52
This begins tomorrow! We have a World Cup starting. Very early times though with NZ being the host nation. It will be a great test for our players. More on that in the Season 52 Tours topic which I will create later today. Beyond that there will also be more work done on the S55 watchlist, as we prepare for the future in that regard. Thanks to everyone who got in touch regarding our S57 list, we will likely look at that again in S53 or S54 to see how things are tracking a few seasons later.

Go the UAE!

Season 52 WC Review
I'll keep this one short.

Overall we finished 3-2, which given the position in the game we can be proud of, it's a good platform. But given it was 3-0 and with fully rested seam bowlers heading in to two seam dominant matches, it was painful to lose both. The Friday game was the most painful, where our opposition played 2 spinners (Humid/Green) and one of them takes 2/15 off their 4, and we lost by 7 runs.

That was the reason behind the little hiatus, it was a tough one to take and given there was no need it was a good time to just forget about NATs for a couple of weeks.

But now that's done! It's a new season, a few new players in to the squad, and we have 3 more tours to end this tenure on a high :) First up, another crack at trying to get out of Div 3

Season 52 - Mid Season Review
Hello everyone. Apologies that there hasn't been one of these for a long time, real life getting in the way. I do enjoy these write-ups and I endeavour to bring them back :) I do think that either a weekly or a fortnightly post is a nice way to keep everyone who is interested updated on the events of the national team. As above, the World Cup was a little deflating given the 3-0 start but lessons were learned and we have a lot of positives to take out of the season we have had to date. So let's carry on with the update!

OD Tour 1
This was won by Bangladesh who hosted on Dry, Crumbling and Slow. And naturally we were given two Crumbling's followed by 3 Slow's, quite frankly pretty disappointing as we only toured the one medium. It was a first tour for Akil Dhul, the recently re-named Snoop Dogg, and young WS Jabril Kamal. And well, it was an up and down week as we went W L W L W, but the 3-2 record was enough to promote as 3rd through 6th all split the wins with 2 each, so we finished 2nd! Based off the average MR for the week we were 3rd (table toppers Zimbabwe were bottom!) so it was a respectable effort to get that promotion.

Yusuf Mohammad carried as the sole medium with 9 wickets across his 3 matches. Ziayd Khoury yet again showing his defensive bowling ability, going at a division best 2.90rpo from his 157 balls. Zaim Jabbar was the pick of the batsmen with 157 runs, a high score of 133 on the final day carrying us to that promotion. Young captain Al Capone was big on Day 3 with a match winning 88 vs the USA. Jabril Kamal took 6/59 in his two matches combined, which @ 9.83 was second best in the tour and the best for us

Overall puts us in to Div 2 with an outside shot at WC qualification, more on that later.

T20 Tour
We had our first taste at Div 1 T20 since Season 32 last week. It was again spin heavy with Dry, Slow and Crumbling as the 3 pitches to pick our squad from. It was debut tours for Shaquille Muttalib and Hamas Mahfuz. It was a nice start to the tour as we beat Sri Lanka convincingly on Day 1. On Day 2 though Muttalib on debut dropped two catches in 3 balls, which then saw that batsman go on to score 54 from 34 and take the game away from us. We were back on the winners list on Day 3 with a win over England, Hud Sam took 6/8!

Day 4 and 5 were both very weird, I do feel like we were unlucky to get 2 points combined from those matches. A tie vs the Dutch (the only team to take points off them this week) when we had double spin OBB closing on a Windy/Crumbling with the RRR very high felt harsh to not win, whilst on Day 5 we managed to bowl well in the second half of the innings to restrict India to 133, but then kept losing wickets like we were trying to chase down 170.

In the end it was a 2-1-2 record to finish 4th (We were 5th on average MR) and survive in Div 1 for another go, and also it means we will qualify for the next T20 World Cup. Zaim Jabbar again topped the batting for us with 121 runs, whilst Hud Sam finished with 11 wickets for the tour, the most in the division. It was a debut tour to forget for Mahfuz as well who went wicketless in his 3 games.

Current Squad
This upcoming week we will run our eyes over the current squad and maybe make a few changes for the future. Along with the players who have been mentioned above, we've also seen Khayri Nasri and Ibrahim Nu'man join the 30 man squad.

OD Tour 2
We've got a go at Div 2 in a couple of weeks after the promotion earlier in the season, but the main aim in general with these tours is to try and qualify for the World Cup. Sadly, we're going to need some favours to make it occur. As it stands we are 15th (Need to be top 12), there are 4 teams who we can mathematically overtake. We need 3 of the following 4 to occur:

Beat Bermuda by 2+ wins
Beat Pakistan by -2 wins [Eg be within 2 wins of them]
Beat Zimbabwe by 4+ wins
Beat South Africa by 4.5+ wins.

Bermuda and Pakistan we might be able to accomplish, but overtaking either African side is going to require a massive favour by them whilst we also essentially have a flawless tour. Because of this unlikely scenario, we decided not to bid on the tour, which has been won by Ireland and will be played on Dry, Flat, Slow pitches. Our aim will (obviously) be to at least stay in Division 2 to give us a much better platform for the next tenure :)

Friendlies
We're still playing friendly matches, not filling in every slot at the moment. But our natural aim is to ensure every new player to the 30 at least is given a friendly match so it appears on the resume for them. I can't promise a tour for anyone who is given a red star but I can and will promise a friendly match for them.

The Future
We will begin putting together a shortlist for the S55 WC (players who will be 30.00 or younger on that WC week) this week :)

A future potential Nat player. Game put him on the TM due to financial limitations. Just wanted to bring attention to others so that he could go to a team with a top academy. Good luck!!!

Season 52 - End of Tenure
And so it ends. Two seasons and all the competitive games are now over :(

OD Tour 2
A great week! We won 4 of our 5 matches, our only blemish being to Ireland, by 1 run. But we smoked Zimbabwe and England, whilst we did enough to creep home against Sri Lanka and Netherlands. It was a debut tour for Khayri Nasri, he had a great start to his senior NAT career. 7 wickets in his 3 matches @ 13.14, and 36 runs from his 3 innings. We had big innings from Hassan Iqbal, Zaim Jabbar, Al Capone and Gadil Mukhtar throughout the week, all 4 of them passing 100 runs for the tour. From the bowling side of things it was yet again Hud Sam topping the list with 8 wickets, Nasri along with Yusuf Mohammad showed that mediums were good this week as they both took 7, and we had 4 other bowlers with 6 wickets. A true team effort.

So we're on our way to Div 1! A great run of games this season will mean first tour next season we join the big boys! Also means we now sit in Div 1 for both formats. Sadly though there won't be a World Cup for us to enjoy this off-season, as we left our run too late (Ranked 13th).

Stats
Over the course of the two seasons we have a record in OD of 12-8, in T20 (inc WC) it's a 9-1-5 record. Combined, 21-1-13, a 61.7% win rate. Comparing this to the rest of the competition:

Ind: 24-11, 68.6%
Sco: 19-11, 63.3%
UAE: 21-1-13, 61.7%
Aus: 22-14, 61.1%
Can: 22-1-14, 59.5% (WC Final)
NZ: 20-15, 57.1%
Ire: 16-14, 53.3%
Net: 17-1-17, 48.6%
Eng: 17-18, 48.6%
SA: 14-1-15, 46.7%
SL: 16-19, 45.7%
Ken: 16-1-19, 44.4%
USA: 16-21, 43.2% (WC win)
WI: 12-1-17, 40.0%
Pak: 12-18, 40.0%
Zim: 12-18, 40.0%
Ban: 13-22, 37.1%
Ber: 11-24, 31.4%

So that gives us confidence moving forward that we are getting results out there. I do feel about about not seeing these players in a OD WC, but it's where we sit sadly :(

The Future
We've got a watchlist for our S54 WC, it's got 23 players on it who will all be 30.00 or younger at the time of the WC. If there's any correspondence needed around training on these players we will send something out to the relevant managers. If you're curious as to whether your player has made the list feel free to ask. Do note that the WC squad is 18 players and there's no age restriction so it is just a guide :)

From here
We will keep an eye on the squad and any training pops/plops, but it's a chance to sit back and relax for the most part. I will be going for re-election at EOS so do keep an eye out for that when it comes around, starting in double div 1 is a great platform for dual WC's next time around :)

Go the UAE!

Nice comprehensive look at the last 2 seasons. Can’t help to get my own plug in about Zaim Jabbar. Bought 4 hours before orders cut off for the MKMC Final for just $8k. Scored a lazy unbeaten 239.

Wow, what a performance indeed! And congratulations of course for winning :)

Jabbar has probably been the pick of the batsmen over these last two seasons. Top scorer for us in T20 and OD this season, top scorer in T20 in S51. Sadly the endurance plops means his NAT career is now at an end :(

A quick squad update:
In: Hatim Ayasha (rhb), Wakil Aziz (lhb), Atif Saleh (rfs)
Out: Liam Duggan, Alam Nu'man, Rais Armanjani

Saying goodbye to three very important players over the course of the last two seasons. All 3 of these players clocked up over 40 NAT appearances, but as we look towards the future we sadly have to move on some of the older players :(

The three new players will all get a friendly debut in tomorrow's match vs West Indies. Match is at 12:00 on a Cloudy/Crumbling :)
