Ireland U20 Nats Thread

Post by justforkix » Fri Jul 08, 2022 7:55 am

It was an almost perfect last SOD tour except the last game loss

But important is we won the division, promote to D1 via NRR due to strong wins in the 1st 4 games and also qualified for WC thanks to Kenya beating NZ

Its the 1st SOD WC after missing out twice & in D1 after a while.

Kudos to KIC too for the right tweaks to the orders that worked very well :)

D1 in SOD, D2 in T20 w/ 4 wins - a good D2 T20 tour also means we qualify for T20 WC next season.

And lot to play for, with the SOD WC in a few weeks - will almost be a revamped squad due to most of the players who toured promoting to seniors. Will start scouting for new players next week.

We pulled Uneven, Hard, Crumbling, Flat, Flat - given that, we are inclined to 4 spinners & 5-6 seamers

- 4 batters, 2 wk are locks
- 2 Fs, 2 Ms, 4 spinners (rfs, lfs, lws, rws) are locks

that leaves 4 spots - key decisions to be made are -
1. Pick 9 batters + 9 bowlers or 8 batters + 10 bowlers with 1 of the bowler double up as pure bat also given he's expert summary
2. 1 more seamer spot - either F or FM, both have a bit of batting but only accom summary
3. Among batters - we have a seam specialist, BH, finisher to pick from

We finally have different batsmen scoring 100s ...don't remember when that happened last.

The Aussie game is the toughest of the lot ...given respective ratings. Let's see whether a flat wicket evens that out somewhat.

We tried our best & almost pulled off a huge chase - excellent tour for us.

Now with a home T20 tour next week - need 1 win to qualify for WC but hoping to promote & be in D1 so that subsequent WC qualification becomes easier.

Well done on another good week. Unfortunately Australia proved to be too strong again

Also today's game should get a mention. 446 runs scored which smashed the old record of 374 :clap

haha SA not setting orders helped obviously …but so tough seeing a 20 odd run last wicket partnership winning a lost game for Aus and whisking the title away from ours at the last minute!

World cup is coming up!

We didn't do well in the past T20 tour but we are hoping to bounce back with some success.

Let's get behind the mighty Irish!

Good to be out of D3

Now to refresh the squad with multiple players turning senior before the next tour!

Thanks for voting me in as the youth Nat manager.

JFK stays on as assistant but we have room for one or two more assistants. A couple of managers have reached out to me. But I wanted to also check whether anyone from the community would be interested.

Do inbox me if yes.
