Tour Summary:
Heading into their second Division 2 ODI tour in recent years, Scotland aimed to consolidate their position in the division while continuing to build on their growing strength.
The tour began on a high note with Anderson’s remarkable six-wicket haul in Game 1, steering Scotland to a commanding victory and boosting team morale. The excitement among fans soared further in Game 2, as Scotland secured a dominant 10-wicket win, thanks to unbeaten knocks from Hutton (81*) and J. Bremner (84*). However, Game 3 brought a predictable defeat against a formidable England side, with Scotland unable to match the high required run rate.
In Game 4, Scotland confirmed their Division 2 status with a hard-fought victory, successfully chasing a challenging target, largely due to Ryder’s unbeaten 52* and Oram’s crucial 87. Heading into Game 5, Scotland sat atop the table with three wins, needing a win or draw to secure promotion to Division 1. Even a loss might have been enough with favourable results elsewhere. At the innings break, Scotland looked poised to chase down the total of 168 for an exceptional promotion, but a sudden batting collapse dashed those hopes, as Scotland once again fell short due to net run rate, finishing in third place.
Despite the disappointment of Game 5, the tour marked a significant step forward for Scotland, highlighting their continued progress as they climb the international rankings. Additionally, the team gained crucial qualification points for the World Cup, as they look to secure a berth they haven’t achieved since Season 54.
Player of the Tour & Best Bowler: Macauley Coupar
Macauley Coupar was the standout performer, claiming 8 wickets at an impressive average of 13. His figures of 3/13 and 3/20, coupled with the second-best economy rate in the tournament (2.94), demonstrated his ability to strangle opponents with the old ball and take key wickets. In his first international tour, Coupar seized the opportunity just before aging out.
Best Batter: Joseph Bremner
After earning both a Special Mention and Player of the Tour in the last two outings, Joseph Bremner continued his exceptional form, taking home the Best Batter award for the second time. Scoring 149 runs at an average of 74.5, Bremner’s contributions, including scores of 42, 84*, and 23, were pivotal in all three of Scotland’s victories. While this marks the end of his ODI career, Bremner will have one final opportunity to represent Scotland in the upcoming T20 tour. The Scottish Youth Management extends their gratitude to Joseph for his remarkable performances over the past three ODI tours.
Special Mentions:
Rob Oram: Rob Oram closed out his Youth International career in style, adding 151 runs to his tally during this tour. His scores of 47 and 87 were instrumental in two of Scotland’s wins. Oram finishes his youth career with 631 ODI runs at an impressive average of 52.58. Best wishes to Rob as he embarks on the next chapter of his cricketing journey!
