There still appears to be a difference between firing players I started with and players I bought. (I just tested). Is that also a glitch, or is that a hidden rule? (That you can't retire someone you've just bought?)

No reason you should know where to look so I found it so you can read it:

Basically it forces financial responsibility on users who who buy older players to win crucial games and then get rid of them so they didn't have to pay wages.

The 25 player rule wasnt brought in, it prove a bit buggy to code but more news on that shortly

Is it possible to sort players by squad number in the squad page (or elsewhere)?

For example, if you want to sort them out in order to display the playing XI first, using the numbers.
