Thanks for these updates eepan - always good to see them!
And its always nice to see Langdon getting a game or two; shame the pitches haven't been more favourable though!

Cheers Epc! You called it mate! It's why you're one of the GOATs!
Inspired to disregard weather and know to throw all spinners at the sticky wicket for the dub,
Last match of the groups will be spicy!
Cheers mate I appreciate this!OldChelmsfordian wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 8:44 amThanks for these updates eepan - always good to see them!

Langdon is such a nice talent! Lets hope tomorrow goes our way, then the pitches suit are higher rated spinners!
It's only right that Saturday plays on Saturday!

Re: Zimbabwe U20 Nationals Discussion
Matchday 4 sees Zimbabwe U20’s take on New Zealand U20’s, on a Humid, Flat pitch.
https://fromthepavilion.org/commentary. ... Id=6762196
01) A. Pomersbach
02) F. Chiyangwa
03) T. Mukahanana
04) R. Gartrell
05) J. Kolisi (c)
06) M. Mufambisi
07) F. Masekela
08) G. Pithey
09) T. Chiesa
10) I. Khozo
11) W. van der Merwe
New Zealand U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
New Zealand U20 - (231-10) – 49 overs – C. Bryce (57) H. Sa'u (49), T. Chiesa 10-0-40-4 G. Pithey 10-1-42-1
- We had New Zealand reeling early, (13-3) after 5 overs! someone forgot to tell our bowlers we’re not playing on the same sticky pitch as yesterday!
- Credit to the Kiwis for rallying back until drinks, but again wickets falling meant Zimbabwe stayed in control
- We have to be proud of our bowling unit! All out on a flat always gives you a chance. From 179/8 to 231 allout is frustrating, but still a below par score for our batters to chase.
Zimbabwe U20 - (197- 10) – 19.2 overs – R. Gartrell (70) J. Kolisi (37), M. Rippon 10-0-36-3 L. Higgins 8-2-28-0
- We survived the opening 10 overs better than NZ,
- However, the runs slowed considerably over the next 20 overs, RRR increasing from high 4s to high 5s an over
- 11 overs out we needed a smidge over a run a ball 165-4. But a nice collapse of 6 wickets for 32 runs ensures we fall short by 34 runs.
New Zealand U20 won by 34 runs
Zimbabwe U20 MR 162,209 New Zealand U20 MR 164,307
A tough loss which bumps us to third, just outside the top 2 knockout positions. We’ll have to win tomorrow, and hope one of the Australasian countries falters on the final day!
To round off the tour, we take on India tomorrow on a green pitch. Where the action will be as hot as the weather!

Matchday 5 sees Zimbabwe U20’s take on India U20’s, on a Hot, Green pitch.

01) N. Shanyurai
02) L. Maraire
03) P. Boyle
04) J. Kolisi (c)
05) T. Mukahanana
06) M. Mufambisi
07) J. de Wilzem
08) T. Chiesa
09) H. Noffke
10) S. Symonds
11) S. Langdon
Zimbabwe U20 won the toss and elected to bowl.
India U20 - (290-10) – 49.3 overs – S. Baweja (54) C. Virani (41), H. Noffke 10-1-46-1 S. Langdon 10-0-52-2
- India raced out of the gates early on, reaching a commanding 70-1 after the first 10 overs
- The innings “slowed” for the next 10 overs, before again exploding out to 175-3 after 30 overs. Already in the high 5’s an over, with wickets in the bank.
- Although wickets fell, India had another burst, meaning, in hot conditions, 291 runs required seemed a daunting task!
Zimbabwe U20 – (294-4) – 46.2 overs – P. Boyle (112*) M. Mufambisi (58*), S. Bisht 10-0-50-2 K. Hatake 8.2-0-51-1
- However, the Zimbabwean batsmen performed exquisitely in reply!
- Everyone making starts, but from our talismanic openers seeing off the new ball, to our superstar scoring an unbeaten, game winning, ton , our middle order maestros keeping the scoreboard ticking, to the finisher Keeper smashing it home, showing shades of Dhoni!
- To chase down 290 at enough pace to see us out of the groups was very special!
Zimbabwe U20 won by 6 wickets
Zimbabwe U20 MR 158,302 India U20 MR 172,431
With that result we usurp New Zealand, progressing to the knockout stage of the World Cup!
The final 4 average ratings = Australia 185k, Canada 179k, Bangladesh 172k, Zimbabwe 163K
But ratings smatings, no matter the rating difference, we’ve proven time and time again that we revel being underestimated!
Roar us on against Canada in a few hours' time if you can!

Semi Final action sees Zimbabwe U20’s take on Canada U20’s, on a Sunny, Hard pitch.

08) G. Pithey
09) W. van der Merwe
10) I. Khozo
11) S. Symonds
Zimbabwe U20 won the toss and elected to bat.
Zimbabwe U20 - (281-10) – 49.5 overs – L. Maraire (79) R. Gartrell (71), L. Bond 10-1-44-3 M. Leon 9-0-45-2
- We got off to a fair start, as we’ve seen throughout, surviving the new ball is key to building a competitive score
- Checking the comparison tab, 104/1, 168/3, 220/4 is a phenominal acceralration in the middle of out innings 5-6 runs an over, on a hard pitch really setting us up for the last 10.
- Then in all fairness we did well to get to the 50 overs mark, although with tailenders in, it felt more like surviving, 281-10 was a tough ask to defend with our bowlers
Canada U20 - (282-4) – 44.2 overs – S. Clay (118*) S. Woodward (76*), S. Symonds 10-0-57-2 W. van der Merwe 9.2-0-56-0
- Taking a wicket first ball, should have raised the confidence of our players, but unfortunately we proceeded to be let down by the fielding in the next 20 overs
- After drinks Canada accelerated away from us, chasing down the 282 required with 2 settled batsmen
- Looking at the match ratings, this was to be expected, but still getting this far was a great effort!
Canada U20 won by 6 wickets
Zimbabwe U20 MR 162,932 Canada U20 MR 177,272
With that we bow out of the World Cup. Best of luck to Canada taking on Bangladesh in the Final tonight!
Thanks for tuning in this tour! It’s been emotional! I’ll let Epc have the final words!

Cheers Eepan...fantastic work as always...
Another great World Cup but unfortunatley we couldnt retain the trophy but a fantastic effort by all involved... Congratulations if you had players selected for the squad and thank you for your support.
Now for the next chapter and I hope you will join me in getting Eepan in position as the new manager of The Zims

Re: Zimbabwe U20 Nationals Discussion
Hi everyone!
I'm really excited to lead the Zimbabwe U20s for the next 2 seasons!
Minimum Requirements
Primary (Batting, Bowing or Keeping depending) = Expert
Technique = Expert
Fielding = Reliable
This is the minimum standard to enter the 30 man squad
Realistically to tour, we'd ideally be looking for +1 level above the minimums and nice other skills and info
Assistant Vacancy:
A free spot is currently available to be a U20 Zimbabwe assistant
No experience required, just message me to get the ball rolling!
Youth Pull Competition:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=41537
Lets continue on our quest to take Zimbabwe to the top!
