With our main objective being achieved this tour (Survival).. we went into this final game sitting in 1st position, fighting for a chance at promotion to Division 1. The task was simple, match the result of Zimbabwe’s game and were through.. Bermuda & Ireland were involved in a promotion decider of their own with both teams facing off against each other as 4 teams battled it out.

5th & final game vs Canada on a Dry pitch with Humid conditions.

Canada won the toss and elected to bat.

Canada got off to a slow start with both openers being dismissed after navigating the first 10 overs. P.Bailey/K.Manley 63 (78) built a crucial partnership leading Canada to 105-2 at drinks. S.Kulkarni spoiled the party claiming a double wicket maiden immediately after. Despite being dropped twice, K.Manley reached his 50 (76) and perished the following over triggering a collapse from 153-4 to 176 all out off 42.4 overs with S.Ashraf & E.Zia claiming double wicket overs of their own. Wrist spinners S.Kulkarni 9.4-1-41-3 & E.Zia 10-1-48-4 doing most of the damage.

With the highs of finishing off our bowling strongly we were pegged back down to earth as 2 wickets fell in the first 3 overs giving us a wake up call. Unfortunately no partnerships failed to materialise, wickets started to fall at regular intervals leaving us all but defeated at drinks with the score on 77-7. K.Badhani 61 (123) was the only batsmen able to read the conditions and play a calm measured innings but even he couldn’t pull off the impossible as Bangladesh were bowled out for 135 off 42 overs.

Canada win by 41 runs.

Match Ratings

Bowling - Spin 10,477 (30) 10,071 (30)
Fielding/Keeping 11,056 11,747
Overall 171,847 177,550

With promotion now out of our control, we relied on WI to defeat Zimbabwe & that’s exactly what happened resulting in Bangladesh finishing 2nd in the table. Bermuda snatching 1st position on the final day after defeating Ireland & having a higher NRR.

PROMOTION SECURED!

Post Tour Review:
Went into this Tour with the aim of surviving Div 2 as a minimum requirement and we managed to do that with a game to spare thanks to other results going in our favour leaving us in 1st position. This put us into the promotion battle on the final match day. Whilst we lost our final game, defeat for Zimbabwe meant we would promote to Div 1 in 2nd position capping off an excellent season for the Bangladeshi Community with 3 consecutive promotions coming this season. Unfortunately, we are not participating in the upcoming T20 WC so focus will now be on the next generation of players. Time will tell if they can compete & fill in the shoes of the current crop as we bid majority of them farewell to the seniors over the next few weeks. We’re going to need a strong team to compete against the likes of Australia & co so keep training those players hard. Thank you all!

T20 - Div 3 > Div 2

1st game vs England (Host) on a Hard pitch with Overcast conditions expected for the game.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh had a bad start, losing three crucial wickets within the first 15 overs. However, a remarkable recovery led by M.Wadud’s stellar performance with the bat as he scored a magnificent 133 (116) supported by valuable contributions from opener I.Mabud 61 (97) & K.Rahman 29* (20) at the end propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total of 275/6 off 50 overs. S.Morningstar and D.Gaby picked up two wickets each for England.

Chasing the target, England suffered 2 early setbacks but showed resilience through opener J.Pawley’s impressive knock off 86 (112) as he laid the foundations for the chase. Contributions from E. Brain 47 (44) and R. McCloy 36 (28) coupled with scores of 20+ from majority of England’s middle order steered the team towards the target. Bangladesh’s fielding was sloppy, with 11 misfields and a crucial dropped catch adding to the pressure. Despite a few hiccups, England managed to achieve the target with three wickets in hand, reaching 276/7 in 48.2 overs. S.Ashraf with 2 wickets for Bangladesh.

2nd game vs Sri Lanka on a Green pitch with Overcast conditions expected for the game.

Sri Lanka won the toss & elected to bowl first

Bangladesh’s opening batsmen, R.Khadim 56 (73) and T.Mortaza 38 (57), laid a solid foundation with a magnificent 100-run partnership that lasted for 20 overs. Despite the strong start, Bangladesh faced a batting collapse as they lost wickets at regular intervals. P.Patel 24 (29) & F.Mortaza 20 (23) contributions helped as we struggled against Sri Lanka’s bowling attack after the drinks break, ultimately posting a total of 203 all out off 45.2 overs. G.Halangoda and G.Harding taking 3 wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Chasing 204 runs to win, Sri Lanka got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets. Despite a valiant effort from M. Solomons, who scored a gritty 63 runs off 107 balls, Sri Lanka struggled to build partnerships & were in complete disarray as they found themselves 6 wickets down with only 59 runs on the board. The Bangladeshi bowlers maintained pressure with disciplined bowling, led by S. Ashraf, who claimed 3 important wickets. With regular breakthroughs, Bangladesh bowled out Sri Lanka for 142 runs in 43 overs, securing a 61 run victory.

3rd game vs UAE on a Uneven pitch with Overcast conditions expected for the game.

Bangladesh won the toss & elected to bat first

Opening batsmen R.Khadim 59 (105) and I.Mabud 20 (26) laid a promising foundation with a steady partnership. However, Bangladesh faced a batting collapse as wickets fell at regular intervals, with A. Qaraja leading the charge for UAE with four crucial wickets, 3 in his first spell. Despite small contributions from the middle order, notably F. Mortaza 22 (54), they struggled against UAE's bowling attack. Bangladesh limped to a below par total of 156 all out off 46.5 overs.

UAE got off to a confident start, courtesy of AR boundary hitter B.Salman 32 (49) & F.Khaleel 33 (61). UAE continued to build steady partnerships and remained composed throughout the chase, with contributions from A.Jubair 28 (51) and B.Omar 20 (44). Despite some resistance from the Bangladeshi bowlers towards the end, UAE reached the target with ease, securing a comfortable 5 wicket victory finishing on 157/5 off 39.5 overs

4th game vs Australia on a Green pitch with Overcast conditions expected for the game.

Bangladesh won the toss & elected to bat first

Bangladesh had a steady start, with small contributions from F.Mortaza 19 (37) & S.Monir 16 (24) before we started losing key wickets early into the game, leaving us stranded on 63/5. M. Wadud emerged as the anchor, scoring a resilient 68 off 97, but lacked support from the lower order. L.Carden starred with the ball for Australia taking 4 wickets, helping restrict Bangladesh to 166 all out off 45.2 overs.

Australia started off their innings in decent fashion, losing 1 wicket in the first 10 overs of the run chase. Opening batsmen D.Topping 68 (108) stood firm, guiding Australia towards the total. Despite some breakthroughs from Bangladesh's bowlers, mainly M. Mabud's 3 wickets, with 2 coming in 2 balls, we couldn’t take advantage. F. Firrito 55* (78) took charge combining with the opener to help Australia reach the total with 6 wickets in hand, finishing on 167/4 off 41.4 overs

Final game vs Bermuda on a Uneven pitch with Overcast conditions expected for the game.

In a must-win clash for both teams, with the victor likely to secure their place in Division 1 for another tour, the pressure was on..

Bermuda won the toss & elected to bowl first.

Bangladesh started off cautiously reaching 41/0 off 12 overs, before it started to fall apart again as we were pegged back to 88/4 at the halfway stage. Opening batsman, R.Khadim 86 (138) played a stellar innings keeping one end secure with Bangladesh building crucial partnerships thereafter. R. Jilani's aggressive knock of 58 (53) and the fireworks from M. Mabud's unbeaten 51* (33) propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total of 261/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

In response, Bermuda started off on the back foot losing 3 early wickets & faced an uphill battle to win as they struggled to build partnerships. Bangladesh's bowling attack, spearheaded by G. Kapoor's impressive spell of 4 for 31, kept the pressure on Bermuda throughout the innings. S.Ashraf and R.Jilani also made significant contributions with the ball, claiming 5 wickets between them. Despite resistance from D. Brodie 42 (55) and H. Gittens 30 (50) Bermuda's innings faltered as they were bowled out for 178 in 42.5 overs, falling short by 83 runs.

Post Tour Review:
This OD tour wasn't the easiest for Bangladesh. Honestly, we went in knowing we weren't at our best. Throughout the 5 matches, we were outrated every time. Our main goal was just to hang in there and stay in Division 1. Winning a title? Not really on the radar. But hey, we did manage to scrape through with 2 wins out of 5, landing us in 4th place overall. And the best part? With those wins, we've more than likely secured our spot in the OD World Cup! That means we can focus on getting our World Cup players ready for the next One Day Tour. Not too shabby, all things considered.
