West Indies U20 - S52 and Beyond

Hey all.

I'm announcing that after 8 seasons and 2 and a bit years in charge of the U20 WI NAT team, I'm going to be stepping back this time and letting someone else have a stab at it.

My reasons for this are fairly similar to the reasons why I was hesitant to run in the first place 2 seasons ago - I just don't have the time or the motivation to be on this game all that much anymore, and desperately need to scale back my involvement in the game, and that starts with relinquishing the U20 manager role. This has been especially obvious this season where I just haven't been very involved at all and have just forgot to do the tour posts which has lead to the U20 thread being deleted for inactivity (very sorry about that :( )

I'd just like to give a quick thank you to all my assistants who worked tirelessly across 8 seasons, but a special mention has to go to desert7 who is practically the godfather of Windies U20 NAT's who spent roughly 30 seasons being involved in some way with the team before he left, and to Berksowl who has been a huge help especially this season as he took over running the team at points when I was away, and recieves my full backing for his election run.

I'm proud of the U20 one day world cup we managed to grab during my tenure, as well as 3 one day div 1's and 2 T20 div 1's, but the time is right to let someone else have a go.

Mon the Windies,
Maddog.

Congratulations on a fantastic tenure Maddog, WI U20's have certainly been blessed by your inputs and you've helped bring a lot of high quality lads into the senior setups. Good luck in the future as you step down:)

Thank you Maddog for ushering the Windies U20s through a so many good seasons. We've been among the top YOD division for seemingly most of it, and have had some great results.

Thanks Maddog40 :)

If only there were 14 days in a week :(

You have given a huge amount of time and effort to WI and have been very successful (including an u20 YOD world cup winner), so lets hope you can play a part again in the future :thumbsup

Anyway enjoy your time off for now :ninja

I'm thrilled to have won this (hotly contested) election, and am keen to get stuck in as Windies U20s gaffer.

Three great managers have agreed to serve as assistants: Maiden50, bobthepheasant, and desert7. I'm very happy to have these three, the last of which may serve a shorter stint (possibly just on or two tours) as assistant, due to RL responsibilities.

I've also invited quirkilyalive, Maddog40, allflattious, keeper19087, and Nazim to join an association in which we'll conduct our discussions of strategy, selection, etc.

If others in the West Indies community are interested in joining that association, please message me in game. Qualifications for such an advisor role are:
- commitment to West Indies (like locating a team there pulling Windies youth, etc.)
- playing the game at a high (youth and/or seniors being a well-trained team in one of the upper divisions)
- experience playing the game over many seasons
- ability to identify talented players, analyze pitch selection and team selection, knowledge of weather and pitches, etc.
- ability to communicate effectively
- treats others (especially the managers training our U20s talent and then sacrificing them to touring duties) with graciousness and respect

...in this community, we've got a ton of such managers with the qualifications above. In fact if you're reading this, there's a great chance this describes you to a T. PM me in-game.

Congratulations on winning this close election mate;) Good luck with the U20's.

As for the association, accepting the invite apparently was throwing up an internal error so I have sent a joining request for the association hoping that works. I'll put this in the bug reports section for the while.

I've gotten a couple reports of that association bug. And I don't see the request to join, Stand by -- I'll get you all added one way or another ASAP.

I've thrown in another joining request, but it still throws up an internal error on accepting the invite you've sent through. Hopefully crowfan can sort it out...

Since I had the name of the association changed due to a typo, there was a bug preventing new members being added. I've decided to delete that association and create a new one. You'll all be getting new invitations. Sorry for the extra hassle.

Update from the season's first Youth One Day tour, taking place here in the West Indies (at some of your home grounds even)...

We've lost Game 1 by 33 runs to UAE. They won the toss and batted first, Jalil top-scoring for 54. Each of finger-spinners, Sarel and Wyhte, took a pair of wickets. They made 223 for 5 in their 50 overs.

After 15 overs, we were 63 for 1, with Walsh looking settled on 27, and Black getting his eye in on 14. They then took three wickets and three overs, from three different spin bowlers, and we were always on the back foot in the run chase from there. Despite our 6th wicket partnership of Pilgrim and Wight making 64 runs, we just didn't have the wickets in hand to accelerate. The worm tells the story of a chaseable total if we had those wickets in hand, but it was not to be.

We'll be discussing what we learned from this match in the Windies U20s advisory forum and then focusing on Game 2. I hope you'll tune in tomorrow at Queen's Park Oval.

U20s Twenty20 tour is under way in Ireland. West Indies playing Sri Lanka today: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/comment ... Id=6280222

We won the toss and went in to bat first, making 166 for 3. Disappointing not to get closer to 200 after being 134 for 1 after 15 overs, but their bowlers were able to clamp down. Still, both openers making a half century set us a good platform.
