Good exhibition showing by Pakistan today, chasing a target of 204 easily with an 8 wicket victory. Rated 153K to 150K advantage so fairly even yet a comprehensive victory nonetheless against a fellow Div 3 team. I liked this lineup for future matches on green pitches, and will experiment with it more as the friendlies approach. Last minute recent addition to the national side all-rounder Bokhari delivered a masterclass with the ball and flipped the match with a 3 wicket over. Desperately needed player given our lack of solid all-rounders, so let's hope he can be a great one for us this season. Next friendly scheduled against New Zealand this Wednesday and should be a great batting show on a flat track. Time to experiment with our "batting friendly conditions" playing XI

Day 1 of the YOD tour against the host nation USA:

Conditions: sunny and slow

USA won the toss and elected to bat.

In the new management's debut tour match, the bowlers started on a frenzy, with USA crashing down to 7-122 and a very low target becoming a strong possibility. However, the 8th wicket partnership between keeper Bowers and Bell was fearless and got the USA to finish with 238 on the board after Bowers' sensational 77 (66)* given the pressure and circumstances. Samiullah led the way with 4 wickets, Maqsood with 2, and the fingerspinners Hafeez and Javed snagging one each. A chase of 239 is not easy, but Pakistani batsman settled down after some early wickets and reached 194-4 before Hashmat got castled. A collapse ensued, and we were at 234-9 with 5 runs to go and our 10 and 11 batsmen out there. After Samiullah rotated strike to put 11 Javed on strike, he calmly scored 2 doubles and brought home a thrilling win. Baig led the way with a 67 (75) and Hashmat with a fast 47 (45).

Was a great start to the tournament and a tough chase we managed to pull off. Ratings-wise, an upset by team Pakistan against the hosts!

PROMOTION!

After a somewhat successful YOD tour earlier in the season that finished 3-2 but missed out on promotion, we have rebounded in the T20 tour that we hosted and this time promoted off another 3-2 campaign. Highlights include wins over South Africa, India, and Sri Lanka. Captain Laeeq led from the front with a team high 7 wickets in only 3 matches, while opener Tariq Mir had a great final youth tour as our leading run scorer at 144 runs. Great team effort by everyone involved, which includes all the Pakistani managers here who support us as well as the non-Pakistani managers who have these stud players on their club teams and trained them well. We will move on to Division 2, and while we are not going to qualify for the T20 WC this season, we are set up pretty nicely for next cycle as a current D2 team.

Next up is the YOD tour and final tour of the season. Goal is to promote to Division 2 here, and then we can make a very realistic push to qualifying for the YOD WC next season.

SEASON 54 IN REVIEW

Hello everyone. This past week marked the final week of competitive Pakistani youth cricket for the season. We would like to thank everyone for all their support throughout the year. Below are just some highlights and stats regarding our performance this season:

Overall total record: 9-6 (0.600 winning percentage)

Record when being the higher rated team: 6-2

Record when being the lower rated team: 3-4

Record when batting first: 5-3

Record when bowling first: 4-3

Total promotions: 2 (1 in T20, 1 in YOD)

Total demotions: 0

Final position on each tour (in order): 2nd, 2nd, 2nd

Final Division placement: Currently in Division 2 for both YT20 and YOD

Final national team rankings at the end of the year: 14th in YT20 (failure to qualify for this season's WC), 15th in YOD (WC is next season)

Leading run-scorer in YOD: Shamsuddin Tahir with 261 in 8 innings averaging 32.62
-Honorable mention to Mujtaba Mukhtar with 213 in 8 innings averaging 42.60.

Leading wicket taker in YOD: 3-way tie with 9 wickets each between Akif Ashraf in 3(!!!) innings averaging 8.56(!!!!!!) with the ball, Abdur Fayyaz in 6 innings averaging 21.11 with the ball, and Khizar Kahloon in 7 innings averaging 23.22 with the ball.

Leading run-scorer in YT20: Tariq Mir with 144 in 4 innings averaging 36.00.
-Honorable mention to Jalat Yaqoob with 136 in 3 innings averaging 45.33.

Leading wicket taker in YT20: Ishtiaq Laeeq with 7 in 3 innings averaging 12.14 with the ball.
-Honorable mention to Shaheer Yasin with 6 in 4 innings averaging 17.00 with the ball.

Our fantasy points leader this season in YOD was Khizar Kahloon and in YT20 was Jalat Yaqoob.

I hope this type of summative writeup is useful/good for the community to see. Once again, thank you all for your help in training these players and supporting the team in many ways. This was the golden generation of Pakistani youth spinners with at least 7 gun spinners, and they have done us proud with promotions in both formats (including in a pace-friendly set of conditions for YT20s). This caps my first season as the youth national team's head manager, and since this is my first one as any national team head manager, please let me know if you'd like to see any changes during season 2 with how the team functions and what we do with our youth side in the Pakistani community. Thank you and good luck on wrapping up the season!
