Match 4: Bangladesh v Pakistan
https://www.fromthepavilion.org/scoreca ... Id=6486906

Date: 30th March, 13:00
Weather: Cloudy
Pitch: Hard

Pakistan lost the toss and were put in to bat as Bangladesh looked to make first use of the cloud cover in the fourth match of the tour.

With the collapse of the previous match still on their minds, the batsmen were cautious up front, scoring 49/1 in their first 10 overs. It was keeper Qazi Mulla and captain Ata Naseem that looked to provide some impetus as the innings went into the middle phases. They combined for an 85 run partnership at almost run a ball, with Mulla being the driving force. He top scored for Pakistan with 54 off 59 deliveries. Their efforts bore fruit, as Pakistan stood at a comfortable 169/2 at the 31st over mark. Things looked ripe for a strong finish. However, Bangladesh fought back, courtesy off Saiful Bishwash and Liton Aziz who counter punched with two wickets apiece, tearing the middle order apart. Pakistan's innings never recovered and the rest became regulation as Bangladesh cleaned up. The total ended up at a below par 231/10 in 45.2 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh lost two early wickets, with Pakistan's new ball bowlers making the ball talk. However, opener Zahed Bishwash resisted and he found an able partner in middle order bat Kashem Alam. The two joined hands in an expertly paced 113 run partnership off 112 deliveries. Both were eventually dismissed- Bishwash in the 28th over, Alam in the 37th. However, the damage had been done. At the end of the 37th over, Bangladesh stood at 206/4, 6 wickets in hand and the required run rate well and truly under control. Pakistan was unable to make any further inroads as the middle order guided their team to a successful chase. Ultimately, Bangladesh achieved the target within 41 overs, scoring 232 with only 4 wickets lost.

Bangladesh won by 6 wickets.
Man of the match: Zahed Bishwash- 82(87)
Pakistan player of the match: Qazi Mulla- 54(59)

Match Ratings:
Bangladesh Pakistan
Batting - Top Order 14,405 14,215
Batting - Middle Order 12,882 13,223
Batting - Tail 5,673 4,814
Bowling - Seam 14,670 (40) 14,835 (40)
Bowling - Spin 14,802 (10) 13,997 (10)
Fielding/Keeping 17,364 16,595
Overall 251,741 247,318

An unfortunate loss with the players not performing to the standards expected of them. However, the goal remains to end the tour on a positive note with a strong performance in the final match.

Match 5: Pakistan v USA
https://www.fromthepavilion.org/scoreca ... Id=6486903

Date: 31st March, 13:00
Weather: Windy
Pitch: Hard

Pakistan lost the toss and were put in to bat first by USA in the final match of the tour.

It was clear from the get go that the Pakistani batting lineup wanted to rectify the mistakes of the previous match on a similar pitch. They seemed to have been given a license to force the issue. At the 10 over mark, the score stood at 71/2, with opener Munawar Rahim being the chief destroyer. He was joined by middle order bat Jamal Abdullah and what followed was masterful. Their partnership would remain in tact for the next 225 runs coming off 209 deliveries, with both batsmen scoring centuries. It was Pakistan's best partnership in the tour and laid the groundwork for a strong finish. Rahim and Abdullah both fell just one over apart from each other with the score at 286/4 at the end of the 42nd over. The USA bowlers countered with three more quick wickets with the score now at 317/7 in 46.1 overs. That's when Tony Stark once again showed his death over hitting prowess. He smashed 45 runs off just 20 deliveries ensuring that Pakistan finished at a massive 368/9 in their 50 overs.

In their response, while the USA batsmen scored at a good rate up front, they also lost 3 wickets in the first 10 overs; the score at 66/3. No. 3 Nathan Griffin combined with middle order bat Glen Steele to steer the chase towards recovery. They put together a 90 run partnership off just 76 deliveries to give their supporters hope of something special. Riaz Sikander snuck one through Steele's defenses to provide Pakistan with the breakthrough and at the end of 20 overs, the score stood at 137/4. The bowlers looked to apply the finishing touches as two more wickets fell in the next 10 overs, the score now at 188/6. However, Christian Stewart and Arthur Morgan had other ideas. They stood together in a lower order stand of 63 runs off 52 deliveries to try and keep the chase alive. Medium pacer Tony Stark and the return of Sikander, the two main tormentors with the ball in this match, broke their vigil. In the end, USA was bowled out for 283 in 45.2 overs.

Pakistan won by 85 runs.
Man of the match: Munawar Rahim- 130(126)

Match Ratings:
Pakistan USA
Batting - Top Order 14,149 14,298
Batting - Middle Order 12,947 13,107
Batting - Tail 5,074 5,355
Bowling - Seam 14,151 (40) 14,021 (20)
Bowling - Spin 13,684 (10) 14,292 (30)
Fielding/Keeping 16,066 17,488
Overall 242,097 249,064

A very good turnaround by the team after a couple of disappointing losses. Unfortunately, not enough to make promotion but quite a few positives to take from this tour as we look ahead.

Match 1: UAE v Pakistan
https://www.fromthepavilion.org/scoreca ... Id=6486982

Date: 17th April 2023, 09:00
Weather: Cloudy
Pitch: Green

The T20 tour kicked off with the UAE captain winning the toss and putting Pakistan in to bat first.

A wicket in the first over seemed to immediately justify his decision as the UAE bowlers applied pressure right off the bat on a green top. However, it was Jamal Abdullah who counter attacked amidst the early jitters, with the middle order batting around him. He smashed 64 off 48 deliveries and when he was finally dismissed in the 18th over, Pakistan stood comfortably at 127/3. On the other hand, the UAE bowlers did well to not allow a runaway finish at the death, with 26 runs being scored off the final three. Pakistan finished at a competitive 153/5 in their 20 overs.

In their response, despite an early double strike by spearhead medium Tony Stark in the 4th over, the UAE batsmen handled the first phase of the innings brightly. At the 10 over mark, they were well placed at 78/2, just slightly ahead of the required run rate. The strategy of targeting the debutant new ball bowler and the spinners seemed to be paying off. Captain Rais Ameen in particular lead from the front with a well paced half century. However, the Pakistan bowlers kept chipping away with wickets, even as Jabir Shakur and Ameen drove the UAE chase into the final over. Perhaps it was Ameen's run out in the 19th over that tipped the scales. With just 1 over left, the scorecard read 144/6. Debutant Mohammad Amjad was given the ball. His first three overs had gone for 29 runs with no wickets. Six deliveries later, he had sealed Pakistan's victory, holding his nerve as UAE fell agonizingly close to the target. They finished at 152/7 in 20 overs.

Pakistan won by 1 run.
Man of the match: Jabir Shakur- 3/29 & 25(17)
Pakistan player of the match: Jamal Abdullah- 64(48)

Match Ratings:
UAE Pakistan
Batting - Top Order 15,618 15,632
Batting - Middle Order 14,513 14,065
Batting - Tail 5,414 5,882
Bowling - Seam 15,046 (20) 14,336 (12)
Bowling - Spin 0 (0) 15,440 (8)
Fielding/Keeping 19,013 18,169
Overall 269,039 264,837

Well, that's some way to start the tour off. After a rollercoaster contest, Pakistan begin their account with an important victory. Let's hope for more to come!

Match 2: Pakistan v West Indies
https://www.fromthepavilion.org/scoreca ... Id=6486974

Date: 18th April 2023, 09:00
Weather: Sunny
Pitch: Uneven

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first against West Indies in the second match of the T20 tour.

The openers displayed intent right off the bat, rotating strike effectively in order to utilize the initial six overs. However, the West Indian bowlers adjusted, chipping away with regular wickets to pull back the run rate. At the 12 over mark, Pakistan stood at a less than ideal 76/4. Jamal Abdullah, dropped down into the middle order, could not repeat his heroics from the previous match. It was representative of the entire batting order. Several batsmen got starts but couldn't quite provide the impetus needed for a strong finish. Although Pakistan did recover from 99/5, at the start of the 16th, to 144/6 at the 20 over mark, it seemed that they were still slightly below par.

In response, the Windies started solidly, choosing to play out the new ball rather than imposing themselves in the initial overs. Despite an early breakthrough from fast man Sarwar Saeed in the 3rd over, at the 10 over interval the chase was well placed at 63/1. Pakistan needed wickets as the Windies looked to up the ante. Although leggie Azizullah Hussain delivered with a breakthrough, by the end of 17 overs, the Windies stood at 118/2, on the back of a well paced half century by Cecil Griffith. With 27 runs needed off the final 3 overs, the 18th went for only 6 runs as Saeed returned to keep things tight. Shaukat Ansari was given the ball for the 19th, with 21 required now off the final 2 overs. Despite picking up a wicket, he also gave away 16 runs, including a no- ball boundary that shattered Pakistani hopes. West Indies completed their chase on the second last delivery, earning an important victory.

West Indies won by 6 wickets.
Man of the match: Sarwar Saeed- 2/17

Match Ratings:
Pakistan West Indies
Batting - Top Order 14,843 15,486
Batting - Middle Order 14,661 13,868
Batting - Tail 5,197 5,335
Bowling - Seam 14,994 (12) 14,951 (16)
Bowling - Spin 15,086 (8) 15,317 (4)
Fielding/Keeping 17,750 18,159
Overall 262,015 263,022

Well, a disappointing result in the end. However, with three matches left in the tour, Pakistan has a good chance to get their campaign back on track. Let's hope the boys recover well today!

A disappointing performance in the T20 tour. Even more so when you consider the high standards set in the previous T20 tour. A lot to ponder over when it comes to the shorter format.

However, now we turn our focus back on to the longer format with the next OD tour coming up. The senior side has a couple of friendlies scheduled against Sri Lanka and Scotland to prepare, before the tour kicks off on 8th May 2023.

Tour Dates: 8th May 2023 - 12th May 2023

Conditions: Uneven, Slow, Crumbling

Keep an eye out for the squad announcement which will be posted soon.
