[Insert gag about Week 0 recruits here...for those too young, ask your parents...]

And Week 0 was a good week - 4 standout recruits with Brent Trumble: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2458915 - a $1.5k LM with AR potential - top of the pile courtesy of Kaidus.

Honourable mentions to Rhys Dickson (Golden Lion - another LM AR, or pure bat), Steve Arthur (Measham Bears - RM with AR potential) and Thomas Gurr (Middlesex Gurus - dual talent bat) who all look fantastic prospects too.

Week 1 doesn't look as strong so far, remember to recruit English if you haven't done so already!

Many thanks,
Montyh

Pleasingly we continued our good OD Tour form with an excellent week.

Having earned promotion from Div 3 -> Div 2 at the first time of asking last season, we cemented our place in Div 2 finishing 3rd later the same season.

This week we achieved promotion from Div 2 -> Div 1 - an excellent result of 2 promotions in 3 tours.

Bangladesh U20 v England U20 England U20 won by 93 runs
South Africa U20 v England U20 England U20 won by 4 wickets
New Zealand U20 v England U20 New Zealand U20 won by 7 wickets
England U20 v India U20 England U20 won by 4 wickets
Ireland U20 v England U20 England U20 won by 29 runs

Our spinners really delivered for us in predominantly dry conditions, McPharlin finishing 2nd in the wicket-taking charts with 13-wickets from his four matches. Our batting held up well too, with Maloney and Moses both scoring 2 x 50's from their 3 innings, finishing 2nd & 3rd respectively in the overall runs chart.

It's a quick turnaround to the T20 tour, with selection next week. I'm pleased to report that aarong has joined Woflie & I - giving us extra resource and experience as we head into a busy period of the season. If you have any questions about the players or our matches, please reach out to one of us.

Thanks for your continued support,
Montyh

Which will be held on Uneven, Green & Hard pitches

We've drawn 3 x Uneven and 2 x Hard - not great pitches for us, let's see how we get on!

My lack of confidence in the seamer-friendly pitches was seemingly misplaced, as we won 5 / 5 games to secure promotion to Division 1

Can't fault the week - some brilliant contributions

Hoping to build upon that positivity with a similar batch of pitches for the upcoming OD Tour. Uneven, Hard & Green. Unfortunately our two best FMs and two best Ms have aged out, so some big voids to fill in the squad. We've got 2 friendly slots to finalise our selections

If anyone has any questions, give me a shout,
Montyh

Congratulations and well done to the following players & teams for being called up to the upcoming OD Tour:

Josef Findlay (The Flown Canaries)
Emmett Maloney (Measham Bears)
Joel Young (The Rampaging Rhinos)
Callan Cavenagh (Magpies
Samit Colreavy (The Bunker Bugs)
Fredrick Seale (Roger Mullet Tribute XI)
Gav Matthews (U.K.I.S.T. Warriors)
Lyndon Philimore (Game Changer)
Dominic Clemons (Sheffield Shield CC)
Moeen McCoombe (Relegation reprobates)
Fergus Brandon (Wolfpack: $ V Gonna Rock $)
Andre Hervey (The Breed)
Dennis Harper (Relegation reprobates)
Barton Hawson (Carpe Diem)
Richard Buckroyd (Staindrop Lordies)
Isaiah Tossol (Speed Machine)
Terry Deverson (Oami Sardines)
Jared McPharlin (Mekerz Tanks)

Pitches are uneven, green, uneven, green, hard - we have a few sub-standard bowlers in there to accommodate the pitches. We might rely on our batters to put pressure on their line-up to help get us over the line...

Cheers,
Montyh

Well unfortunately our under-strength bowlers didn't overperform and our batters didn't apply any pressure, which resulted in a poor tour and relegation to Division 2:

vs. Netherlands - lost by 8 runs
vs. West Indies - won by 5 wickets
vs. UAE - lost by 8 runs
vs. Australia - lost by 27 runs
vs. South Africa - lost by 6 wickets

Shame to finish so poorly after a generally successful two seasons. If there is an upside, it was that it happened with WC qualification already secured

We've had our opponents and pitches for the World Cup:
Game 1 - UAE on uneven
Game 2 - Bangladesh on crumbling
Game 3 - Kenya on crumbling
Game 4 - South Africa on green
Game 5 - Netherlands on hard

Looks to be pretty tough. Needed lots of spinning pitches, to have only two in consecutive games is a bit of a pain. Some of our seamers will again be a bit substandard, let's hope they'll fare better after last week's experience

Well the conclusion of the World Cup also concludes this term for me. Upon reflection we had a good tournament, qualifying for the semi final before losing to eventual winners Sri Lanka. Always disappointing to be so well beat in the knockouts, but these tournaments are always so competitive:

Game 1 vs. UAE - won by 2 wickets
Game 2 vs. Bangladesh - won by 1 wicket
Game 3 vs. Kenya - won by 92 runs
Game 4 vs. South Africa - lost by 1 wicket
Game 5 vs. Netherlands - won by 4 wickets

Semi Final vs. Sri Lanka - lost by 69 runs

That means these two seasons finish with results as follows:

S50
OD Tour 1 Div 3 - promotion
T20 Div 1 - relegation
OD Tour 2 Div 2 - remain

T20 World Cup - semi final loss (wickets taken!)

S51
OD Tour 1 Div 2 - promotion
T20 Div 2 - promotion
OD Tour 2 Div 1 - relegation

OD World Cup - semi final loss

So 3 promotions, 2 relegations and two semi final appearances. Certainly an eventful couple of seasons! I'd like to thank wolfberries and aarong for their support, couldn't have done it without them.

Whilst you can never promise to match / better those results, I feel like I'm well placed to continue to lead the team in this next term. As a consequence, I'll be putting my name forward for the England U20 Manager position at the upcoming elections.

Thanks for your support. As always, any questions give me a shout

Now we're amidst this season's T20 Tour, and congratulations to the following players & teams for being called up:

Henry Metcalfe (Berkshire CCC)
Harvey Charlton (The Raging Speed Horns)
Mitch Harrop (The Lynch Ninjas)
James Brayshaw (Roger Mullet Tribute XI)
Wayne Redfearn (Sleeperbloke)
Rolon Donaire (Sterling Archers)
Wally Frei (Western Super Mud CC)
Alastair Hand (The Dross)
Lyndon Philimore (Game Changer)
Kenny Knowles (Patch XI)
Noel Schneider (Xanadoosra)
Andre Hervey (The Breed)
Dennis Harper (Relegation reprobates)
Blake Heffernan (The Exiles)
Terry Deverson (Oaim Sardines)

The first game was a heavy defeat to a very strong Australian team. We bounced back with victory vs. Zimbabwe meaning it's all to play for in the next 3-games.

And hot on the heels of a 3rd place finish in OD Div 2, we've again finished 3rd this time in T20 Div 1. An up and down week, generally happy to get through an remain in Div 1, which essentially guarantees WC qualification for the WC after next. The next manager in the hot seat can thank me later :thumbsup

Thanks,
Montyh
