Hi, thanks for posting. This is a thread for the U20 side. My impression is that you're keen to bring your player to the attention of Kadius and I'm sure this will achieve that. However, I fear that he may be quite some way off Nat standard. Generally Nat players need to reach exceptional primaries (bat/tech/fielding) and exceptional (or possibly better) power/endurance.

That's not to say he isn't a good player for you though. It's just tough sometimes because only the 30 best players from that particular nation make it to Nat level, have to be extremely fortunate for one of your players to make it...!

All the best,
Montyh

Last week's stud belongs to Kadius: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2449292

A $1.3k wage player who could either be a pure bat or possibly even an AR, depending on which way Kadius wanted to go.

This week is T20 tour week and we're in Division 1. Have the small task of being a stacked Australian team first up, let's see how the week pans out!

Many thanks,
Montyh

One of each so far:

England U20 v Australia U20 Match tied
USA U20 v England U20 USA U20 won by 8 runs
England U20 v South Africa U20 England U20 won by 6 wickets

In Game 1 we couldn't stop Australia getting 11 from the last over to tie. In reality, would have been far easier for Australia had we not scored 22 runs from our final over thanks to some heroic hitting from Warren.

We gave away too many runs in Game 2 vs. USA and ultimately fell short with the chase.

Our ability to play 4 seamers vs. South Africa's 3 made the difference in Green / Sunny to give us a relatively comfortable victory.

All of which means Division 1 is extremely tight with 1st-5th separated by one victory - all to play for.

We've got a crucial game vs. West Indies today in Sticky / Windy followed by the UAE in Slow / Windy tomorrow. Both relegation and the championship still up for grabs...

Cheers,
Montyh

Well a disappointing week...

England U20 v Australia U20 Match tied
USA U20 v England U20 USA U20 won by 8 runs
England U20 v South Africa U20 England U20 won by 6 wickets
West Indies U20 v England U20 West Indies U20 won by 9 wickets
England U20 v UAE U20 England U20 won by 6 runs

In three relatively narrow games at the start, we fell 1-1-1 so can't have too many complaints there. Really the big disappointment was being blown away by the West Indies in a game where we suffered 3 golden ducks and failed to bat 20 overs, only to watch them chase with ease for the loss of 1 wicket...

Today was a consolation because results didn't go our way, which has seen us be relegated from Division 1 on NRR despite not having a losing record. Can't recall that happening too often. Nevertheless, T20 World Cup qualification was already secure so we have that to look forward to at EOS.

Will have to dust ourselves down as the next One Day Tour is just around the corner...

Cheers,
Montyh

Last week's beast is Sajid Larkin: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2451673

Needs game time, but a $1.1k wage rws, already average summary and with a relevant skill - one to watch!

Our final two warm-up games didn't quite go to plan, two defeats. Shows what picking a line-up can do to your chances of winning!

But pleasingly the first tour match started well with a good victory over Ireland. Our 2nd game against Scotland starting imminently...

Our stud for Week 5 is another batsman, Frederic Gibson: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2444051

Bravo to you, a reasonable/reasonable bat/tech start with accumulator - one to watch for sure!
I just noticed this shout out :D He's looking even better with a month of training under his belt!

Whatsmore Gibson has broken into my YOD playing XI (136k). No mean feat as I'm hoping to maintain 1st spot in NZ Youth 1.1

England U20 v South Africa U20 South Africa U20 won by 80 runs
England U20 v Kenya U20 Kenya U20 won by 36 runs
England U20 v UAE U20 England U20 won by 4 runs
England U20 v USA U20 England U20 won by 82 runs
England U20 v Bermuda U20 England U20 won by 26 runs

A One Day Tour in two parts...

Our backs were up against the wall from the first game, where an $8.2k wage South African wristie (which at this stage of the season is ludicrous!), with expert experience (20.08yo) and expert form took 5fer to tear our chase apart. Things didn't get much better against Kenya where our attack allowed far too many runs to be competitive.

From there, I would have been delighted to stay up - but as it happens we missed out on promotion by NRR as we finished joint-top, but ultimately 3rd as those heavy defeats cost us.

The final three games were much better - we posted a decent total against the UAE but were perhaps fortunate to defend 29 from the last 24 balls on hard. A couple of well-timed late wickets making the difference. Big shout out to our all-rounder Noack for scoring 117 (115).

We then posted 200+ in sticky, in England's best OD total on that pitch for many many seasons - ultimately this was too much for the USA to content with. Our total against Bermuda wasn't quite as good, but we delivered a couple of crucial run-outs to finish the tour strongly.

We bid farewell to a few stalwarts ahead of the T20 WC at EOS. Max Speed, our only decent fast-bowler and the batting trio of Goodman, Catalano and Warren all age-through.

We'll look ahead to the T20, refresh the squad accordingly and look to give a good account of ourselves. Any questions, give me a shout.

Many thanks,
Montyh

Last weeks' studs couldn't be separated. Two excellent batting prospects at $1.4k

Alastair Bradshaw - https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2454827
Bradshaw will be well looked after at Camberwell Carrots. Who knows, might be able to convert into an AR with an early tech pop. In any case, a reasonable / average bat / tech start with accumulator on that wage is a really nice prospect.

Aaron Jewell - https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2455008
Jewell has just been picked up by the Rampaging Rhinos for $500k - so again he'll be in great hands. Similar stats, with a spin spec - needs game time but looks promising!

We've started to look ahead to the T20 WC squad selection, will be working through our choices this week. Stay tuned

Congratulations to the following players for being called up to the upcoming World Cup:

Batsmen:
Josef Findlay (The Flown Canaries)
Amjad Aaron (Roger Mullet Tribute XI)
Joel Young (The Rampaging Rhinos)
Paddy Moses (Royal Challengers Barnsley)
Geoff Smyth (Relegation reprobates)
Toby McNamee (Wolfberries Too)
Amir Rigg (The Mighty Mighty Ducks)

Keepers:
Isaiah Hitchcox (Canterbury Villagers)
Bernard Goldsmith (Affiliatey McAffiliateface)

Bowlers:
Stew Noack (Tobago Saucers)
Moeen McCoombe (Relegation reprobates)
Rhett Roberts (TheBeachBoyz)
Barrie Logan (Wolfberries Too)
Leon Walshe (Germantown Cricket Club)
Richard Buckroyd (Staindrop Lordies)
Alex Bright (TinyNomads)
Karl Dilger (The Breed)
Richard Colville (The Lynch Ninjas)

In terms of our 16.00 recruits coming through, slim pickings from last week. Only two players with $900+ wages. Thankfully Peter O'Brien (https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2456685) looks tidy. $1.1k wages, LHB accumulator with a reasonable / ordinary bat/tech start. Not anything special, but certainly this weeks' standout recruit

Casey Englefield - you are a stud: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2457844

Particularly pleasing when they end up at a good home, in this case Snakey's Kent Stars

Today is the start of the T20 World Cup, are fixtures are as follows:

Monday - Pakistan in dry / windy conditions
Tuesday - USA in flat / sunny conditions
Wednesday - New Zealand in hard / sunny conditions
Thursday - Scotland in dry / cloudy conditions
Friday - West Indies in hard / windy conditions

Come on England!

Game 1 vs. Pakistan - lost by 6 wickets
Game 2 vs. USA - won by 46 runs
Game 3 vs. New Zealand - won by 6 wickets

Well after a massive disappointment in Game 1, the young lads have partially redeemed themselves, picking up a couple of nice victories

The match against Pakistan was a big fail - we only managed to post 104 in dry/windy conditions before they raced to 30/0 from the opening 3 overs to make batting look easy. In the end, it was a comfortable chase despite going down to the 19th over

We had better fortunes in Game 2, where we set the States 198 to win, thanks to a great contribution by Amjad Aaron. Ultimately, the pressure told as we bowled them out for 151 with the last ball of the game.

Today was a much tighter affair. In sunny / hard New Zealand posted 170 - a total I was relatively comfortable with chasing, particularly with NZ lining up with two spinners. It was one of those days , with the spinners collectively going for 36 runs from their 8 overs - the other 135 runs coming off the 12 overs of seam. Despite the ludicrous economy rate of their spinners in bat friendly conditions, we chased the total with a ball to spare

The results leave 3 teams with 2 wins and 3 teams win 1 win - so all to play for. Scotland tomorrow in dry / cloudy and West Indies in hard / cloudy on the final day. Have to think we'll need to win both to stand a chase of reaching the semi finals

Game 1 vs. Pakistan - lost by 6 wickets
Game 2 vs. USA - won by 46 runs
Game 3 vs. New Zealand - won by 6 wickets
Game 4 vs. Scotland - won by 4 wickets
Game 5 vs. West Indies - won by 12 runs

We finished the group stages really strongly, putting the performance vs. Pakistan firmly behind us to top the group with 4/5 wins.

The semi-final vs. the UAE couldn't have been much tighter, with the UAE prevailing on a wickets taken countback after the scores were tied. Despite the close result, I feel as though the UAE were worthy winners. We only managed to take 3 wickets on sticky, plus our RM Bright got tanked for over 11 runs per over - two really unforgivable results. In the end, we did well to bring it down to the last ball and tie the game.

Overall - a successful tour. I'll be enjoying a break now, with the next tour selection Week 4. As always, any questions or comments give me a shout

Many thanks,
Montyh
