Our run of good friendly results continued with an 82-run victory vs. Bangladesh. Although as with the West Indies, they didn't set a full team which aided us significantly.

Raymer shot 98, dispatching their batter who opened the bowler as a RFS, around the park. We defended the total well with wickets for the mediums and spinners in the cloudy / slow conditions. Diablo the pick with 25-3 from his 10 overs.

I think the squad for the tour is largely selected now. We have a friendly against South Africa this weekend, so may still be a shot of changing our thinking - particularly for those players on the cusp of selection

Cheers,
Montyh

Another largely pointless friendly with South Africa failing to set orders…so the squad was selected with very little contribution from the last 3 friendlies…

Congratulations to the following players for being called up to the upcoming One Day Tour:

Batsmen:
Tim Tafail (The Bloodhounds)
Leigh Chiesa (Tarva)
John Shalidor (The Raging Speed Horns)
Ashley Catalano (The Rampaging Rhinos)
Des Warren (Nuwan Dedunu Memorial Squad)
Toby McNamee (Wolfberries Too)
Amir Rigg (The Mighty Mighty Ducks)

Keepers:
Francis Clingeleffer (Wolfberries)
Bernard Goldsmith (Affiliatey McAffiliateface)

Bowlers:
Stew Noack (Tobago Saucers)
Darin Levy (Indian Vikings)
Steve Kerrigan (The Dutch Ovens)
Aftab Marks (Not Now Bernard)
Angus Gogler (Naruto Warriors)
Dominic Diablo (The Raging Speed Horns)
Benjamin Quigley (Gingernuts)
Austin Locastro (The Tobago Serviettes CC)
Karl Dilger (The Breed)

We will spend this week preparing for the tour, in addition to removing any players becoming too old for subsequent tours.

Many thanks,
Montyh

Our Week 4 stud goes to: Mike Walshaw https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2442613

A $1.3k wage Boundary Hitting LHB who starts with reasonable batting & fielding and average tech & power. Should develop into an outstanding talent if trained correctly

Our final two warm-up games didn't quite go to plan, two defeats. Shows what picking a line-up can do to your chances of winning!

But pleasingly the first tour match started well with a good victory over Ireland. Our 2nd game against Scotland starting imminently...

Our stud for Week 5 is another batsman, Frederic Gibson: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2444051

Bravo to you, a reasonable/reasonable bat/tech start with accumulator - one to watch for sure!

A good victory against Scotland to make it two wins from two to start this OD Tour.

Quigley followed up his 2 wickets in the first game with 3 today. Levy also proving effective against the tail, picking up 3 wickets in addition to 12* with the bat. Ultimately we limited them quite well, ensuring we were always in control of the chase.

Have to say, it helps when an opposition specialist bat with a $13k wage falls first ball...must be spec/spec primaries at youth level, ridiculous! (And in turn fortunate for us).

The table has three teams 2/2, with the other three 0/2 - so promotion still tightly contested. We play one of the other 100% teams tomorrow, Zimbabwe, in overcast uneven conditions. Should be a challenging tie!

Said opposition bat who flopped vs. us with $13k wages scored 81* today...if you can't be good, be lucky!

3/3 with a win against a strong Zimbabwe side today. Stew Noack - take a bow. 55 (110) opening the batting and then 41-4 from his 9 overs, outstanding all-round display. Expecting him to be completely shattered for tomorrow's game...

Which is on slow/overcast. Noack won't be playing, but we should follow a similar set-up to Game 2 which was also on slow/overcast.

We're in an excellent position for promotion, important as we're in Div3 for the first of 4 Tours building towards the OD World Cup. Getting out of Div3 as quickly as possible is essential if we want to qualify...

Cheers,
Montyh

At 164-4 we were goners! 31-6 towards the end was barely believable - really unexpected

We shall try our best for 5/5 :)

PROMOTION SECURED! A good victory vs. Pakistan to make it 4/4

We were always in control of the chase, but I was a little worried about the loss of wickets, but pleasing our ARs contributed with vital runs towards the end to take us home

We have Kenya up next, would be great to finish undefeated and secure top spot - fingers crossed!

Well, we weren't able to finish unbeaten as Kenya took their opportunity to join us with Promotion to Division 2 on the final day. Still, a really pleasing tour for the first of the season and my first at Youth Nat level.

For a bit of fun, here are how the players fared:

Player Ratings - S50 OD Tour 1 Division 3

Batsmen

6/10 Tim Tafail (The Bloodhounds) - 4 appearances, 68 runs at an average of 17, 2 catches
Our best batsman probably underperformed slightly, but 40 (61) in Game 1 was a useful knock.

6/10 Leigh Chiesa (Tarva) - 4 appearances, 74 runs at an average of 19, 1 catch
A subdued set of performances from the talented batsman, not bad

7/10 John Shalidor (The Raging Speed Horns) - 3 appearances, 102 runs at an average of 34
Chipped in with an important 70 (61), didn't push on but still a decent tour for Shalidor.

7/10 Ashley Catalano (The Rampaging Rhinos) - 4 appearances, 101 runs at an average of 25, 3 catches
Had 3 starts, only managed to convert one (65 from 86 balls) but ultimately that was a crucial knock. If every batsman had one good innings, you'd do okay. Tidy in the field.

7/10 Des Warren (Nuwan Dedunu Memorial Squad) - 4 appearances, 83 runs at an average of 42, 1 catch, 1 run-out
Started the tour strongly with 24* & 44* in back-to-back games, often batting towards the end of an innings. Can be pleased with his contributions.

7/10 Toby McNamee (Wolfberries Too) - 3 appearances, 100 runs at an average of 33, 1 catch
Scored an important half century vs. Scotland, had a good tour - likely not to be his last either.

6/10 Amir Rigg (The Mighty Mighty Ducks) - 4 appearances, 67 runs at an average of 17, 1 catch
Didn't contribute with the bat too impressively, useful captaincy option.

Keepers

7/10 Francis Clingeleffer (Wolfberries) - 3 appearances, 69 runs at an average of 35, 4 catches, 1 runout, 1 stumping, 2 missed chances
Scored a rapid 52* at a run a ball to help post a competitive total vs. Zimbabwe. Did well behind the stumps, keepers are always likely to suffer the occasional drop here & there.

6/10Bernard Goldsmith (Affiliatey McAffiliateface) - 2 appearances, 52 runs at an average of 26, 2 catches, 1 stumping, 2 missed chances
Only given two opportunities, Goldsmith did reasonably well

Bowlers

9/10 Stew Noack (Tobago Saucers) - 3 appearances, 102-10, 102 runs at an average of 34, 1 catch
And outstanding tour by Noack, including hitting 55 (110) in Game 3. I had highlighted him as someone we may need to protect with the ball, but he proved a difference-maker, taking 10 wickets in his 3 appearances.

7/10 Darin Levy (Indian Vikings) - 2 appearances, 86-3, 35 runs, 1 catch, 1 run-out
A good contribution from the AR, scoring 23* and 12* to contribute with valuable runs at the tail. Struggled in overcast conditions but picked up important wickets

7/10 Steve Kerrigan (The Dutch Ovens) - 3 appearances, 100-4
Was somewhat of a gamble selection with ordinary experience, but handled himself well.

7/10 Aftab Marks (Not Now Bernard) - 3 appearances, 125-7, 2 missed chances
Marks was a little expensive in the first game, going at 4.80 runs an over, but took important wickets across all three appearances. Could have done better in the field

6/10 Angus Gogler (Naruto Warriors/Ashwin slaughters) - 3 appearances, 98-3, 1 catch, 2 missed chances
Redeemed himself with 27-3 in the final game, otherwise was economical but unthreatening in the first two games. A couple of disappointing drops for the RM.

5/10 Dominic Diablo (The Raging Speed Horns) - 3 appearances, 97-0, 2 catches
Wicketless in 3 games, tidy in the field, only faced 4 balls with the bat. Did a NBB job at the top of the innings staying tight and not allowing the batsmen to build a total.

8/10 Benjamin Quigley (Gingernuts) - 3 appearances, 89-7, 22 runs, 1 catch
A fantastic tour for the LM, demonstrating both his wicket-taking ability and competence to contribute with the bat

8/10 Austin Locastro (The Tobago Serviettes CC) - 3 appearances, 95-8, 2 catches, 1 missed chance
Also contributed with the bat, scoring 36 from 3 innings. Impressive display in green x 2 and uneven x 1.

5/10 Karl Dilger (The Breed) - 2 appearances, 76-2, 1 catch, 2 missed chances
Even considering the conditions weren't in the RWS favour, we had hoped for more from this impressive spinner. Was sloppy in the field, but still has time to improve with future tour selections likely

We say farewell to Tafail, Marks, Kerrigan and Gogler who will all be too old for the next tour. Selection for the T20 Tour in Div1 starts Monday!

And those T20 Div 1 Tour matches will be on slow, green & sticky...a couple of friendlies to assess squad options this week.

In terms of last week's stud, I hate to do it - but I'm feeling like Donald Hayne is looking the strongest: https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2446152

Egham Town CC >> Donald Hayne
16y1w | 27,766 rating | $1,155 wage (5% discount)

Right hand batsman | Left arm Medium

Talents Finisher
Experience poor
Captaincy accomplished

Skills
Batting average Endurance ordinary
Bowling average Technique reasonable
Keeping poor Power average
Fielding ordinary

Hate to make a habit of showcasing my own players, but I've been tremendously lucky to have a couple of good recruits in recent times. Hayne has a good primary start, nice exp & captaincy and a useful talent for an AR.

Only a few hours into the week, but looks like woflie has a strong contender for next week's award...

Murray Calver (The Raging Speed Horns)
Dominic Diablo (The Raging Speed Horns)
Benjamin Quigley (Gingernuts)

Karl Dilger (The Breed)

Last week's stud belongs to Wolfberries - a $1k LF with a training talent, Byron Farrell:
https://www.fromthepavilion.org/player. ... Id=2447432

A couple of higher wage keeper / bats, but judging by our current fast bowler depth, any decent players RF/LF need to be carefully nurtured...!
