Game 1 vs. Sri Lanka - won by 1 wicket
Game 2 vs. India - lost by 134 runs
Game 3 vs. Canada - won by 83 runs
Game 4 vs. West Indies - lost by 1 wicket
Game 5 vs. Pakistan - won by 6 wickets

Another 3rd place finish this tour. A topsy-turvy week with a narrow loss, tight win, big loss and a big win all in the mix. Remaining in Div 2 with 2-tours remaining for WC qualification puts us in a strong position to book our place in the tournament at the end of next season

But first we have the T20 World Cup, where we've been given Sticky, Flat, Uneven, Uneven, Uneven pitches. On the positive side, good to have some homogeneity in the pitches allowing us to pick an attack largely consisting of seam bowlers. On the negative side, our spinners are much stronger so it's going to be painful leaving some good players behind

Any questions give me a shout,
Montyh

Game 1 vs. Ireland U20 - won by 7 wickets
Game 2 vs. West Indies U20 - won by 34 runs
Game 3 vs. v USA U20 - lost by 6 wickets
Game 4 vs. Scotland U20 - lost by 30 runs
Game 5 vs. Canada U20 - won by 8 wickets

In a crazy group, 5 teams finished joint top with 3 wins meaning qualification for the semi-finals came down to NRR. As was the case last season, we again finished 3rd just outside of the qualification spots. Unfortunately, those losses prevented us from another semi-final appearance.

We move into a new season and look ahead to the first OD Tour in Week 6. But in the meantime, a bit of downtime...

Cheers,
Montyh

Firstly, my apologies for the radio silence these past few months. Whilst this thread isn't overly busy, I acknowledge that some of you may enjoy keeping tabs on how the U20 are faring.

To provide a short summary, it's been a relatively successful season. We finished 3rd in the first OD Tour Div 2, narrowly missing out on promotion via NNR. We maintained our T20 Div 1 status in the sole T20 tour, with a 3rd place finish here too. In the final OD Tour, we achieved promotion finishing 2nd (again on NRR) to promote to Division 1. This means that for both OD & T20 the next manager will be in Division 1, which in turn is a good platform for WC qualification in future years.

The final challenge is the OD World Cup where we've been drawn the following pitches:

Game 1 vs. UAE - Dry
Game 2 vs. South Africa - Sticky
Game 3 vs. Ireland - Uneven
Game 4 vs. Zimbabwe - Sticky
Game 5 vs. Sri Lanka - Flat

So we'll be taking a 6/3 seam/spin split, with the following players selected:

Lindsay Hervey (Carpe Diem)
Jeff Hilditch (Master Ducking Bouncer)
Lloyd Garing (Carpe Diem)
Reece Voges (Golden Eagle)
Boyd Hepburn (Measham Bears)
Frankie Hopkinson (Amounderness Hundred)
Donald Dighton (Smesh 11)
Shami Drennan (Daredevil Rocker)
Johnny Bairstow (CMK Cricket Academy)
Rowan Triffitt (Birds XI)
Ivan Aylett (Hay Spitfires)
Lyall Lindsay (Carpe Diem)
Boyd Quinlan (Statto's Seletion)
Daniel Saggers (Sledgingshire)
Usman Garing (Newball Slappers)
Adam Patterson (Snakey's Kent Stars)
Doug Frances (Marching On Together)
Will Healy (Budgewoi Puppies V2)

Congratulations if you one of your players has been selected and thank you for your ongoing support

Cheers,
Montyh

And with the conclusion of the U20 OD World Cup comes an end to my 4-season tenure as U20 Manager.

It's been a fun ride, one that has been relatively successful. Across those 4-seasons we qualified for every World Cup, results as follows:

S51 T20 World Cup - semi final loss on wickets taken(!!!)
S52 OD World Cup - semi final loss

S53 T20 World Cup - knocked out in group stages via NRR in a 5-way tie for 1st
S54 OD World Cup - semi final loss

To qualify for 3/4 semis with the only failure being a 5-way tie on NRR is pleasing. Although naturally would have loved to go an extra step or two, wasn't to be.

In addition to that, England are in Div 1 for both OD & T20 competitions, meaning the next manager has a great platform to start from.

I'd like to thank wolfberries and aarong for their support during my time in charge. If any prospective candidates for these upcoming elections have any questions then give me a shout. I'll keep a watchful eye and if there's any benefit to adding candidates as an assistant to get some early visibility of the squad then I'll do so.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead. Good luck to the next manager!

As I write this report of the tour just gone, I can certainly say I went through quite a few different emotions during the week, with the final overriding one being of disappointment. Despite England being the second strongest squad on paper(But we all know cricket isn't played on paper, especially on-line management games)we finished bottom of the table, with only one win and that being against eventual league winners Australia.

From the start the tour went badly, and by that I mean having three Green wickets being selected for the week! Considering medium pace bowlers were easily our weakest bowler type we'd only selected one(An all rounder)as Green was the third choice wicket, luck certainly wasn't with us.

So to the games and I would say it was some bad batting and/or poor catching that hurt us this week.

First up was Zimbabwe in Green & Sunny conditions, at 204 for 3 from 39.4 overs it appeared our choice to bat first was justified. Then, it was most likely some very good bowling and some very poor batting but we proceeded to lose 6 wickets for 10 runs in 24 balls and finally ended up 230ao, probably 35/40 runs short of where we should have been. Zimbabwe kept their nerve and won by 1 wicket in the last over. You simply can't lose 6 for 10 and expect to win Internationals games.

Second game was against Ireland in Green and Humid conditions, once again we batted first and were bowled out for an under par 189, but still this was a total I considered we could defend, in another tight game Ireland knocked off the runs 8 down, all this despite our bowlers making the chances for us to win the game. In the end we dropped 4 chances from the 10 we created, while Ireland only missed 1 from 5. Once again despite our fielders being better on paper this didn't materialise during the game!

Third game was the one and only one we won and it was again in Green and Humid conditions, and ironically it was against Australia who went onto win the title, our batsmen finally put a really decent score on the board and we finished 260 for 4, thankfully our bowlers once again fired and managed to defend the total by bowling out the Aussies for 238, despite our fielders missing six chances!

Forth game was against the UAE Uneven(Finally) and Cloudy conditions and once again we batted first, we finished up on 215 which in these conditions was certainly a total I thought we could defend, yet after having our opponents 141 for 6 they coasted to victory by 3 wickets! We took all five chances yet in the end UAE were just too strong for us.

Fifth and final game and if we had won we still could have stayed up but it was not to be as we played Bermuda in Cloudy and Hard conditions, once again we batted first and finished up 281 for 9 with a total I thought we could defend(I was wrong a lot this week), yet Bermuda cruised to victory by 5 wickets in 43rd over, once again our fielding cost us as we missed 5 chances from 8 and you can't keep giving quality teams such a Bermuda second chances as proved by their second place in the tour.

I think it's best we put this tour behind us and concentrate on the upcoming T20 week, which fingers crossed we will perform better in.
