Considering we had them down to 71-5, they got a bit closer to winning than I would have liked but eventually:

Ruff Royals won by 18 runs

St. Marks Hill Strollers Ruff Royals
Batting - Top Order 13,729 14,331
Batting - Middle Order 11,758 13,123
Batting - Tail 7,631 4,633
Bowling - Seam 13,265 (14) 14,509 (30)
Bowling - Spin 13,376 (36) 14,660 (20)
Fielding/Keeping 16,350 18,137
Overall 240,620 250,974

Roberson started off really well with the ball and was very economical in the first half of their innings. Rush was also good and finished with the same figures as Roberson (3-46). Massey picked up some crucial wickets at the end and took 3-36. What a time for Captain Whitehead to find some for with a stunning 110 and a man of the match performance.

The bad news for us is that Sledgingshire managed to beat top of the table Bathaloner which slightly increases our chances of relegating. If St Marks Hill Strollers fail to beat Bathaloner next week or if we manage to beat Snakey's Kent Stars then we are safe for another season. The net run rate between all 3 relegation threated sides is very close so it could all be down to net run rate depending on how the final day goes.

won the toss on humid/sticky and had a bat. at 56/4 I was just hoping we would at least reach triple figures, before our best two bats this season by far helped us out of a difficult situation. Zaha with 40 (71) was excellent as per usual, but the star of the show was our finisher Kouyate with an unbeaten 84 (91), shielding the tail brilliantly including a last wicket stand of 36 with Gallagher who only had to face three balls, to bring us up to a very competitive and unexpected 184/10 in our 50.

In reply opps lost regular wickets and struggled to build a decent partnership, John top scoring with 30 (59). Mateta was superb with figures of 10 - 0 - 40 - 6, and we ended up winning by 42 runs. A most unexpected win against an extremely strong Ffoh, and that guarantees us at least some prize money. Level on points with Egham going into the last game, but with their superior NRR I think the title is beyond us unless they unexpectedly slip up against Relegation Reprobates. Hopefully we can get a win against Camberwell to at least secure 2nd place, but even if we don't it's been a very promising season with quite a young squad.

Registered my highest ever SOD rating....
...still got beat. Putting promotion to Div 2 in doubt. My apparently strong batting order could only register 175 on a sunny/slow!

Repeat this week - two ME screwings in a row and promotion is gone!

And 3 in a row! Looked set for promotion 3 weeks ago, but poor batting means I'll end up 4th! Sticking the youths out for the last match - playing the first team isn't doing any good!

Having won the league, I picked players who needed experience or players who I intend to keep at seniors. That's not a big change to my normal side but it's still a slightly worse team than I could have fielded.

Ruff Royals Camberwell Carrots
Batting - Top Order 7,334 7,329
Batting - Middle Order 6,434 5,162

Ruff Royals won by 3 wickets

I'm happy with the win. The bowling wasn't great but they didn't score a massive amount so it was a chaseable total. Most of the thanks for the win goes to Schwartz for his 55 not out in 37 balls.

Uneven pitch and we let them score 58. We chased it down withing 5 overs with McCall getting 40 not out from 17 balls. That win confirms we maintain our place in the top division next season. I'm not so sure I'll be saying the same this time next season as I'm expecting to retire some players and sell some too so we will almost certainly be weaker than this season.

Overall 127,101 135,707

St. Marks Hill Strollers won by 31 runs

A disappointing result although we wouldn't have promoted anyway. It did push us down to 3rd place though.

There were some plusses. Pithey, my 16-year-old LF, picked up 1 wicket for 16 runs from his 4 overs. Harvey Mitchell also scored 56 in his 2nd YOD innings which is good because I paid far too much for the 17-year-old so he needs to do well.

There were also some negatives. We let them get far too many runs on a slow pitch. Ames was once again particularly bad at bowling. We made a pretty poor effort at chasing a tough but not impossible target. Schwartz was out for a duck and should be doing a lot better than his average suggests he is doing currently.

I think the past couple of seasons were our best chance of getting promotion to division 1 and I wouldn't expect us to really challenge next season (mainly due to losing a good keeper) although you never know.

Some crucial games today. Bathaloner and Inchigeela Angels battling it out at the top. Bathaloner need to win and somehow maintain their net run rate advantage over Inchigeela who play the bottom placed team (13 losses with -5.9 nrr). If Bathaloner do beat St Marks Hill Strollers then we are safe from relegation and the Strollers are relegated. If the Strollers win and we don't win then it could all go down to net run rate which is very close between us, Sledgingshire, and St Marks Hill Strollers.

R. Schneider (rm) 1-0-7-0, C. Hillsz 9 (15b), C. Hone 5 (12b)
End of over 6 (7 runs) - Snakey's Kent Stars(20-1) RR 3.33

Early days so far. A nice early wicket but we need more.
