[IDEA] Removal of Slowdown

Post by GM-crowfan65 » Tue Nov 04, 2025 9:35 am

Possible removal or reduction of slowdown.
This will help players get to the 'I can play you now' level quicker

Currently starts once you hit outstanding and decreases training by 15% for each level above outstanding.
We will trial this to potentially adjust some training depending on how many get to legendary skill.
We could look at starting it later as well.

I floated the slowdown as one of the factors contributing to the sameness of players (along with exponential wages and penalties for gaps between skills). I admit, of those three, I think the slowdown is probably the one that would be most problematic to try and remove. Mainly because if training doesn't slow down, then a lot of players will just reach the maximum possible skill level, which causes other issues. However, another problem is it actually widens the gap between 21-24 year olds and players in their prime, since it would mean players are training faster through their mid-20s and improving more.

The only way I would accept the training slowdown being removed would be if it's done in tandem with some other change(s) to ensure players don't just get maxed out in skill: notably the implementation of potential would achieve that (but that is another discussion).

Agree with James on this one. Removing the slowdown will likely make more players end up trained exactly the same way

on its own, that is likely, again it's a combination of some or all the [IDEA]s

I can see the benefit in this and how tailoring the removal will help increase player variety. Players currently fall well short of maxing out with most top players battling to reach a wc primary let alone elite or legendary.
Is it even possible currently to train a players primary to mid level legendary other than keeping?
I'd like to see some players getting a lot closer to maxing out and I expect plenty of simulations would be done to ensure that any adjustments would be scaled to avoid issues that arise.

What about changing the slowdown rather than removing it?
Make it an age slowdown across all talents from 25?

There is already an age slowdown, a 19yo trains twice as fast as a 26yo and 4 times as fast as a 31yo
(skills below outstanding, not endurance or power).

Code: Select all

16	120%
17	115%
18	110%
19	100%
20	93%
21	86%
22	79%
23	71%
24	64%
25	57%
26	50%
27	45%
28	40%
29	35%
30	30%
31	25%
.

If the goal is to make players playable earlier, surely you puy more development into their early seasons and less in the later seasons.

Obviously I dont know what is viable technically but that seems the obvious solution.

Reducing slowdown might produce more player variety but I dont see how it helps with this.

Or make it an age slowdown across all skills from 23. But significantly increase youth training and/or starting skills. That may make players more playable from 23 or even younger.

I think removing the slowdown and just increasing the age slowdown and slightly increasing the younger end of the scale would go a long way to helping the 21-25 age group.

Caps and potential would help the player variety without hurting it extensively.
