Weather change

Post by Madcarrot » Thu Sep 22, 2022 2:56 am

At the moment weather goes in a line

Hot > humid > sunny > Cloudy > windy > Overcast

I would like to first suggest that this goes in a loop. So much suggestion would be:

Sunny > hot > humid > windy > Overcast > Cloudy > sunny

I would also like to add 2 new new weathers.

Fog limits visibility and so adds a penalty to both fielding and batting.
Cold gives a penalty to all players at the start of the innings and wears off.

Another alternative would be a to have hot, cold, and fine (fine being neutral) running alongside the other weather's, so you have cold and windy, hot and sunny etc. And that way you essentially triple your weather combinations.

ok this does interest me
We would like to add 2 weathers to make it 8
The way weather works at this stage lineal is better if you mean it is travelling in a continued loop but we may have a way around it
It it travels from sunny to sunny then back again that is ok

What needs to happen is working out the adv to each bowler type to ensure their is a balance across the board also

This is the current order

Hot - Spinners slight advantage.
Humid - Seam decent advantage.
Sunny - No advantage.
Cloudy - Seam slight advantage.
Windy - Spin decent advantage.
Overcast - Seam decent advantage.

Firstly I think the order is wrong

I don't mind cool rather than cold but I would need to check coding to see if it can be reduce during the inns
or just effects all the bowlers equally or find it hard to get rhythm

Now just need one more
Did think of drizzle so game isn't effected by rain breaks but all bowlers find it harder to grip

This way the new weather can help reduce bowler effectiveness as well

When I say in a loop I mean it can change direction at any time.

At the moment you get to the end, Overcast or hot, and you have 2 options, stay the same or move back to the previous weather. Whereas with all the other weather types there are 3 options, stay with the current weather or go in either direction if that makes sense. This is why I suggested a loop.

Isn't there a settling in period for batters? I would think baving players take longer to warm up in the cold weather would be a similar mechanic.

It's also interesting that there is no weather that benefits batting, the only things being negative buffs to specific bowler types or Sunny which is no bonus to anyone. Even the weather that negatively affects bowlers like hot and humid also negatively affect batters as they fatigue more.

For me having something that could negatively affect fielding could help even that out. Which is why I suggested foggy weather. We have 2 pitches that give batting a boost in flat and hard, so why not a weather?

It's also worth noting that we have 3 types of weather that benefit seam bowlers and 2 that benefit spin bowlers. I guess that makes sense given that there 3 are types of seam bowlers and 2 types of spin. But it seems pretty even as it is so I wouldn't see a necessity to add more weather types unless they either buff or nerf an aspect such as all batting, all bowling, all fielding, or a combination.

Here are some other ideas.

Gale - greatly benefits spin bowlers (it's the Overcast to a seamers cloudy)
Moist - negatively affects all bowling, also slows down the run rate due to moisture on the ground (though 6's still occur at same frequency)
Fog - negatively affects fielding
Glare - negatively affects all catching

Changeable = lucky dip

Could be any of the settings but you do not know = jeopardy

As long as it stays the same for both sides then I'm all for it.
