Game 1: South Africa
Conditions: Crumbling/Windy
Result: Netherlands win by 5 wickets

South Africa Netherlands
Batting - Top Order 15,522 14,714
Batting - Middle Order 13,042 14,031
Batting - Tail 5,937 5,675
Bowling - Seam 14,843 (20) 15,722 (20)
Bowling - Spin 15,082 (30) 15,743 (30)
Fielding/Keeping 17,749 17,804
Overall 260,250 264,091

Key Performances: Theo Smit (10-1-33-5), Benjamin Flens 47 (95)

Solid all round performance to get us started. South Africa started well, reaching 51 before Smit made his first breakthrough. The change to our star wrist spinner was crucial as he took a wicket in each of his first 3 overs, followed by another just before drinks. Abt and Van Oosterhout also picked up once each to leave South Africa 90-6 at the half way stage. Some excellent batting from Cooper and Bryant (RIP) put up the most resistance, until Smit returned to break the partnership and complete his 5fer. Hinkelaar and van Nistelrooy then made light work of the tail to set us 167 to win.

The start of the chase was a little ropey, losing all rounder van Nistelrooy in the first over with Mozart being dropped shortly after. He made the most of this chance however, putting 29 on with De Jonge and 55 on with Flens to take us to 98-3 after 27 overs. Flens was then partnered with the debutant Holtbacher for another partnership of 36, leaving us requiring just 33 runs from 13 overs. Flens did eventually fall just 3 runs short of a well deserved 50 on debut, however Posthuma and Bril took us home without any further worry.

Game 2: West Indies
Conditions: Slow/Cloudy
Result: Netherlands win by 57 runs

Netherlands West Indies
Batting - Top Order 14,787 14,445
Batting - Middle Order 12,818 11,447
Batting - Tail 5,509 5,686
Bowling - Seam 15,336 (20) 15,162 (30)
Bowling - Spin 14,789 (30) 13,850 (20)
Fielding/Keeping 17,372 16,979
Overall 254,106 244,752

Key Performances: Benjamin Flens 82 (98), Christiaan Huygens 60 (73), Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater 9.1-1-35-4

Another fantastic display to take us to 2-0. We got off to a poor start, losing both Bril and De Jonge in the 5th over. This brought Flens and Olajuwon together, who stabilised us with a third wicket partnership of 66. The dismissal of Olajuwon then brought Huygens to the crease, with the two tour debutants putting on a match winning 110 partnership at just under a run a ball. Flens was dismissed in the 42nd over, again falling just short of a well deserved milestone but another match winning display nonetheless. The West Indies OBB fasty begged us back with 6-55, however we still managed to post 253-8.

The ball ball bowlers failed to perform, making me thankful we did not opt for the third seamer. The introduction of Van Hage in the 10th over brought the breakthrough wicket we needed through a run out, and he followed this up with a stumping in his next over. The West Indies top order fought well, getting to 97-2 off the first 20 overs. Van Hage again got the breakthrough of this partnership, and another wicket from Smit put us back in the driving seat at drinks. At 133-7 the game looked over, however an excellent counter attacking innings from West Indies keeper Breen made the game interesting. Thankfully, Leeghwater returned to dismiss Breen for 88 and seal the game.
