Senior Nats S43 & 44

Thanks for voting. Much appreciated.

We start this season in OD.3 so promotion in first tour is important if we're to have a chance of making the next OD World Cup.
Week 5 Tour pitches will be decided this weekend, so tour squad will be selected in Wk 3.

Three players will make Senior debuts in the next OD friendly vs local rivals India;
Sujay Dhawan: 28yo left-hander
Syed Taher: 29 yo fast bowler
Shukla Ghosh: 27yo medium pacer
Fielding: Outstanding is really the minimum.
We toured with several Expert fielders last season, and dropped a whole bundle of catches.

Important tour first up again this season, we seem to be in NOD.3 first tour each season. On each occasion we have managed to get out of the league but end up going down again. Hopefully we can get out and remain up.

The fielding did cost us last season, more than ever imagined with some bad luck in there as well, cost us a WC place. Depth is tested even when touring some of these players, with a bit of extra training we will be better placed in this regard.

Over the next few weeks we will be posting several stats and history of Bangladesh that I have accumulated over the several seasons, these include:
  • Bangladesh Nat manager histroy
  • Bangladesh U19/U20 manager history
  • National cap numbers for all Bangladesh players to play NOD & NT20 (far too many for U19/U20)
  • Club recruitment lists and debuts for National players
  • Bangladesh Division 1 records
  • Bangladesh Hall of Fame
  • Bangladesh Shield (to be named labrooy Shield, most successful Bangladesh manager)

Dhawan picked as a punt for the future, and his nice secondaries.
Then watched his form disintegrate.
Stunning innings today. :clap

S43 wk 5 OD.3 Tour analysis

Fielding:does it matter?
Poor fielding hurt us last season. Some of our best players are below-par fielders.
Toured a couple of players with lower-primary but higher-fielding to try and bring fielding up.
This is how the tour played out...

Fielding team: catches-drops (field rating)
NZ :8-1(17,951) / BD :5-3(16,246)
USA:3-6(15,730) / BD :8-2(16,369)
PAK:5-1(16,920) / BD :1-1(16,039)
BD :3-2(15,920) / UAE:6-0 (15,808)
CAN:5-1(15,663) / BD :6-3(15,424)

This shows that significant advantages in fielding can make a signficance difference in taking chances.
It also suggests that when fielding ratings are similar, we are really bad at catching

The mystery of form
We had some match-winning performances from low-form batsmen.
Looking a little deeper...

Batsman(best bat):form:tour avg
Rana(8):avg:67
Taher(4):cap:47
Khatun(5):ord:39
Dhawan(9):poor:39
Rangachari(6):reli:27
Monir(7):reas:23
Gavaskar(3):reas:17.5
Banerjee(2):avg:17
Sarkar(1):avg:14

Does this show that bad form is actually good form?
It certainly shows that our best batsmen are actually our worst bastmen.

It is hard to make analyses and generalisations from just 1 tour, but it has been for several seasons that poor fielding can lose you matches and lesser skilled/form players can perform well.
From the tour, we were ranked #4 (from all 18) for overall average match ratings, but only #16 for fielding/keeping. So there is significant weakness there to improve on further. Do we drop a few higher skilled players in all skills for a level or 2 in fielding? Better keepers would certainly help too when we have had the same 2 keepers now for a 4th straight season.

There is something that younger players perform over more seasoned older players. The 3 28yo bats did well and so did the 28yo bowlers, while some of the 30-31yos had poor tours.

It was the 3rd season in a row that we went 4-1 in NOD-3. The next real challenge is to finish in the top 4 in NOD-2, which will come later in the season.
Next up is the Twenty20s, and it looks like we're off to England (hosted by Bermuda) on some very seam-friendly pitches.
