Tight loss to Kenya. One of those decks where you can't feel safe even after scoring 330.

Hope the boys will bounce back today.

Gritty batting display from opener Arnolda and our fancy keeper Muhsin helped us to accumulate a decent total of 231 on dry/cloudy, despite a few batting collapses around them. The spinners did the rest to get the big win by 81 runs.

Although we were already handed over the title by Kenya, the boys just wanted to earn it and have given yet another team effort!

Winning the toss, the boys started off with some nice cool-headed batting, especially our star bat Thambawita scored a massive 81 in difficult conditions to steadfast the ship. The rest of the bats also chimed in around him to get a competitive total of 246 for SL in the stipulated 50 overs. Then the captain, the legend, our master class wristy, Ushathi gave his 200% to stranglehold the Aussies by taking 5 wickets in the mid overs. In the end, the target of 246 was too much for the Aussies and Sri Lankans won by 30 runs! :clap

Thanks! But you won the cup as well as being consistent. Kudos to you! :)

We had a good team last WC but the boys were out of touch just before the cup. We had brought in and stuck with a bunch of folks (likes of Embiid, Lakmini, Thambawita, Ushanthi) for a long time even when they were not ready for the senior side just with the cup in mind. But we failed at the big moment. :(

Unfornitanely, we won't have that kind of strong team for a while for sure. We have to find a way to do better than 100% from the next batch.

Thanks mate!

Yep, we have an ageing squad too so the next couple of seasons will be tough for us to stay competitive. Good luck for the remaining tours mate, see you in a couple of weeks for the T20 tour and well done again.

Top 5 Best Bats

Code: Select all

Player Runs 100s 50s
Sugath Shrath 194 1 0
Vinayagamoorthi Thambawita 189 0 2
Ashok Muhsin 133 0 1
Kiribaba Junkeer 116 0 2
Asanka Arnolda 111 0 1
Overall great battings on this tour. 2 of our bats are among the top 3 of the best bats on this league.

Top 5 Best Bowlers

Code: Select all

Player Wickets 5WIs 3WIs
Mahindananda Lakmini 11 0 3
Joeel Embiid 9 0 2
Selvam Ushanthi 7 1 0
Lakshman Prabath 6 0 2
Jayantha Dinesh 5 0 0
Lakmini with his OBB remains among the most consistent SL bowlers as always.

Best Keeper

Code: Select all

Player Stumping catches
Silida Pieris	1 4
Unusual! I thought Mushin with his elite keeping would take this spot.

MoMs

Code: Select all

G1: Lakshman Prabat vs. Zim (3/32)
G3: Ashok Muhsin vs. Ire (78*(89) 1c 1st)
G4: Joeel Embiid vs. Eng (8*(12), 3/38, 1c)
G5: Selvam Ushanthi vs. Aus (2(2), 5/51, 1c)
Match Ratings (Sri Lanka)

Code: Select all

Higest: 255k
Lowest: 234k
Rating Drops

% drop of ratings between first and last game to indicate a proxy measure of fatigue management of the teams on this tour.

Code: Select all

Eng: (259-244)/259 = 5.8%
Aus: (263-235)/263 = 10.6%
Sri: (255-234)/255 = 8.2%
Zim: (264-233)/265 = 11.8%
Ire: (265-241)/265 = 8.7%
Ken: (249-221)/249 = 11.2%
I think Eng did a pretty good job of managing fatigue (they had a younger squad which also helped) whereas Zim, Ken and Aus struggled towards the end. Of course, pitch distribution also played a role here.

Well 3 wins and 2 losses at the end from this tour. Not entirely unhappy with the performances though given the team we had.

With future WC in mind, we went with a mix of experience and youths. We have already qualified for the WC spot so the target of this tour is to avoid relegation. Fingers crossed!
