Thank you Sir! 4-1 with a NRR below 0. Perhaps some luck, but we'll take it! 8)

For those fallowing along at home, you'll have seen that West Indies U20s earned promotion back to U20 OD Div 1, finishing joint tip points, 2nd only on NRR in this tour. I call that a successful tour. Spin bowlers Nurse, Williams, and Emtage came through in a big way. Wight was also very good this tour. But man of the tour goes to top run scorer in the tour (not just us, but all teams), Pascall, who made scores of 137 not out, 72, and 32. His 137 is within the top few highest innings of all time for West Indies U19s/U20s.

Now the focus turns to the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.

First U20s tour of the season is in the books, with us having relegated out of Division 1. The tour started well with a win against world #1 U20s team Australia. The afterglow of that win soon wore off, as we lost all four subsequent games and finished dead last in the division. So we'll fight our way back from Div. 2.

Now the focus turns to T20, with a tour starting in the West Indies on 9th of January. Pitches will be -- hmm, let's see if I can remember what we bid -- crumbling, green, uneven.

Big thanks to our outgoing players, superstar opener Hollister Murray, lightning-fast bwoler John Bonitto, and keeper/batsman extraordinaire Mervyn Davis. Also two players from the just-concluded YOD tour deserve congratulations for their performances (and luckily both will be back to represent Windies U20s again): Noor Johnson with his finger-spin bowling (he took 8 wickets this last tour), and Jamero Kenda (right-handed batsman who made two half-centuries this last tour).

With today's win against Australia, we're sitting 3rd in this international U20s T20 tour.

https://www.fromthepavilion.org/leagueo ... 10127#curr

Speaking of that win vs. Oz: it was a nail biter. We needed 16 runs from the last over. We scored 17, thanks to Mohammed and Johnson, the latter of which hit a last ball 6. That last over also featured two missed runouts and one dropped catch. I'm glad I was at work and didn't watch, as I'd probably be in hospital right now.

Focus is now on Game 5 vs. a UAE side that is much better than their match results this tour suggest. We'll be on an uneven pitch in cloudy weather, so we should see some good quick bowling.

The bad news is that we did not win this T20 tour in Div. 1. But the good news is we finished 2nd, and stay in the top flight. I'll take that.

Strong performances from both openers, Murray and Chabrol; our wicketkeeper Davis; and from our seamers Jaggernauth and Mohammed.

Okay, no time to rest. Our 2nd YOD tour of the season starts 30 January. And soon after is the YOD World Cup. Very much looking forward to both.

Hey all -- just a quick note of apology: I failed to set any match orders for today's Game 1 of the season's first Youth One Day tour. I'm sorry for this, and I'll spare you all my excuses. So we start the tour with one loss and a very bad NRR. Ireland's NRR is very high, so apologies to the other teams as well.

Hi all, I'll be trying to liven up this topic as the new U20 manager, but we are going to need YOU too. If you're reading this you must have some interest in the WI U20 community. Say hi, give a shout out to your (prospective) player, comment on the games and squad and we can make this a bit more interesting for everyone.

As U20 manager I'm looking for one or two more members for the U20 team.
  • one role we'll be looking to fill is that of reporter. Someone who likes to do little write-ups about the touring squad and about performances
  • also, anyone willing to join as a strategy consultant is welcome as long as your support of the WI is solid
  • lastly, new managers who want a taste of the NAT scene are very welcome to join the team
Anyone interested, send me an in-game mail!

Friendly period week 1-3 S58
The soon to be 21yos have been promoted out of the U20 squad. We are playing a few friendlies where the next batch can build some stats and we can debut the crop that will be our backbone for the T20 WC at the end of the season.

A cloudy/hard game last Saturday and a hot/dry game on Wednesday give ample opportunity for a range of players.
Saturday against Kenya U20 saw a lot of debutants:
- Jermey Casimir (Silly Mid-On CC) formed a silly opening pair with Hilton Pearce (Silly Mid-Off CC)
- Sam Panda, one of our WC hopefuls scored a 50 on debut
- Brian Jaggernauth and Roger Dervish had been close to selection for a while, but apparently they had a dispute with the previous U20 manager
- Oscar Graham showed he isn't just a spin specialist with a solid 40
- Courtenay Birkett, our main fast bowler and one of our captains this season, had a mixed experience
- Rawl Bynoe was very economical at 3,8 in these conditions
- Edwin Lashley picked up two vital wickets

WC players Hilton Pearce and Hughley Marshall made a lot of the runs, but the debutants had a good day in the field, contributed with the ball and Panda with the bat.

In the hot/dry game v Bangladesh we'll give our spinners a good go. Sam Panda will be the captain and Joseph Philips and Oscar Graham will pair up in the middle order as spin specialists.

Yes, I was afraid selection too early would go to their head! Good to see them in the mix though!

Birkett and Bagot are exciting players.

Tonight sees the start of the first tour of the season. We're playing in div 2, with three uneven pitches, one crumbling and starting off on green.

Our captains for the tour are Boom Boom Birkett, Sam Panda and Roger Dervish.
Panda is leading our batting stocks alongside WC veteran Hilton Pearce and Brian Jaggernauth.
Dervish and Birkett are two of our quicks. Glen Francis is the only quick with tour experience.
Our keepers Ramgobin and Marshall are veterans of last season's world cup with three fifties between them.
Herbert Browne is our final veteran, having played in the world cup and an earlier tour.

Keep an eye out for Bro Bartlett who was drafted in late after not failing to catch balls during practice for once.
Bagot, Alexander, Panda and Birkett are likely to feature in this season's WC, keep an eye out for them during the few tours!

S58 SOD Tour 1 recap
To be short, we had quite a horrible tour. We didn't win a game and in the end that is what we needed to stay in div 2 and qualify for next season's world cup. We can still qualify but we will need to promote next tour. The upside is that we took quite a few players on tour who are relatively young and will improve and feature again in the team. And some of those younger players performed very well already. Some didn't, though :whistle

Game 1 v South Africa Hot/green
We played our three spinners because these were relatively spin friendly conditions. Warrington and Browne did well, but the other bowlers were taken for too many runs as James Cook posted an unbeaten 96 in SA's 266. This was a big ask and as we stumbled to 3/22 we were quickly out of the game. Captain Sam Panda and the lower order did OK, but in the end Andrew Tye ran through the lower order as we crumbled to 176 ao in 40 overs.
Notable performances:
Warrington 3/44 & 25
Panda 56

Game 2 v England Humid/uneven
In game 2 we could play our 4 quicks (Bynoe, Francis, Dervish and our supposed leader of the bowling attack Birkett). We posted 217 thanks to fifties by Jaggernauth and Panda which brought us to 175/2 after 42, but then we only scored 40 more runs as 4 wickets fell in succession. England in reply went off to a quick start with 80 runs off the first 15 overs. Although wickets fell regularly, their no.4 Jer Albers made an unbeaten 97 to get them home in the 49th over. Birkett had a tough game with 0/61 which the other bowlers couldn't mitigate. Dervish (captain for this game) was pick of the bowlers.
Notable performances:
Dervish 3/35
Panda 76
Jaggernauth 64

Game 3 v New Zealand Humid/crumbling
The home team, New Zealand batted first. They built on a solid foundation (128/3 after 30) and their allrounders at no. 7 and 8 scored 69 runs off the last ten overs. Warrington, pick of the bowlers again, had bowled out his overs by then and the other bowlers looked a bit toothless. Birkett with another 0/61 and a couple of dropped catches by Marshall (wk) didn't help. In reply, we got off to starts but were pegged back consistently, with in the top four getting to 20 but not past 32. Compare that to NZ with 5 guys getting past 20 and past 35. After 114/3 we crumbled to 152 all out.
Notable performances:
Warrington 3/33
Asgarali 3 catches (1/54 and 15 not out)
Pearce 32

Game 4 v Netherlands Humid/uneven
We lost two wickets cheaply - Bagot for a golden duck - but Panda with another good score and Bartlett with a maiden 50 were supported by Ramgobin and Graham to get us to 225. Bartlett was in a frenzy, moving from 50 (78) to 80 (92) but was dismissed thanks to a blinder on the boundary rope. This held us back from a bigger score. Our bowlers failed to take wickets until the 24th over and in the end Netherlands coasted home for the loss of two wickets.
Notable performances:
Bartlett 81
Panda 46
Francis 1/42

Game 5 v Sri Lanka Cloudy/uneven
By the last game we had already relegated, but with the conditions suiting our quicks we hoped to take one win away from this tour. Ramgobin and Marshall scored 40s and as Ramgobin fell at 132 after 35 overs (5 down), we had a reasonable basis. Bartlett and Warrington scored an unbeaten (although dropped on 0 and 6 respectively) 125 run partnership to take us to 247, which looked a defendable total. Again though, we found out that our seamers didn't match up. Birkett (0/54) was taken for two sixes as SL got home in the 46th over for the loss of just 4 wickets.
Notable performances:
Bartlett 63*
Warrington 64*, 1/45 & 2 catches
Ramgobin 42
Marshall 40
