Ambidextrous Ratio

Post by soundscomplex » Wed Oct 09, 2019 12:00 pm

Just a small change but something that bugs me immensely is how many players bowl with one arm and bat with another. I’m not sure if I have an Anomaly filled team but I have at least 6 (in a senior squad of 16! Over 1/3rd!). I’ve played 8 seasons of cricket in my life , approximately 100 people I’ve played with and I’ve met 1 who this applied too.

It’s just a bit frustrating to have someone who really should bowl or bat left handed and just doesn’t. Does this really have to happen this often? I’m not saying get rid of it but I think it should be massively reduced and maybe (speculative here) even potentially examined as something that could add a bonus to the team (a bit biased).

Thoughts?

We can take a look at it, not 100% sure if it looks at the handedness of the batting to decide the bowling handedness
About 40% of all the players bat and bow with opposite hands, probably worth investigating the code to see what change is required to reduce the chances

Trying to think of the my RL cricket team, we have atleast two that I can think of right now. I think it’s actully quite common, but maybe the games ratio is higher than normal?

At least 5 current Aussies are with Warner, Finch, Wade, Head and Hazelwood

I bat right and bowl left , but in all my years playing outdoor and indoor cricket the memories relate to a figure roughly less than 15%

I bat left and bowl right, and there's 3 other people in my club (out of 30ish) who are the same. Incidentally, that's in England, and I was once told it's much more common in South Africa - because they get taught to bat left-handed if they're right-eye dominant (and vica versa), and eye dominance is independent of handidness (and kids tend to bowl with whichever hand they instinctively pick up the ball with). Any South Africans around to agree or tell me I've been sold a porkie?
